For my first post I thought I'd contribute some data! Standard disclaimer: this worked for me by is quite possibly unsafe for you so consider this a journal of
what I did and
not what you should do.
Initial search with my Bergara B14 Ridge SP in 308Win (18in barrel), 151 AH, H4895, CCI 200, FL sized Lapua, 2.785 COL, 3/8 turn FCD (some iffyness on when engagement started, but a slight crimp):
42.9 | 2749 |
44.5 | 2824 |
45.5 | 2836 |
46.0 | 2876 |
46.5 | 2917 |
47.0 | 2943 |
I used a case vibrator to settle the powder and despite that started to get compression at 46 grains but it seemed manageable. I tried one round at 47.5gr that didn't get picked up by the chrono but I didn't see any pressure signs. I had hoped to find a load at 2900+ so later I'll explore between 46 and 48 for a consistent and accurate load.
I've also had real good success with Ramshot TAC which is almost the same burn rate but a lot less bulky. Same components as above other than powder (now TAC) and COL was 2.810 without crimp:
45.0 | 2772 |
46 | 2818 |
47.0 | 2916 |
47.5 | 2927 |
48.0 | 2953 |
48.5 | 3000 |
49.0 | 3030 |
Of those 49.0 showed a slight ejector mark and sticky bolt on one of two rounds. I ended up with 47.7 for my final load as it gave me consistent velocity and roughly MOA accuracy which was good enough for this years hunting season. Of note, that is the same charge I use for 130 TTSX loads.
I have to say, I'm super impressed with these bullets. The BC is a bit low but for the ranges I aspire to hunt the extra velocity more than makes up for it and an 1800 fps expansion threshold gives a little more wiggle room for the long shot's I'll almost certainly never take.
