I like shooting and not burning up components chasing the perfect load of which I've done that many times.... Main reason I went with the 7PRC is because the 6.5 PRC that I build shot inside 1/2 MOA with first load I put together and all I've done to it since was bumped up powder and it's only gotten better. The design of the PRC's makes sense but not end all be all I'm sure.
But if the 7 shoots close to as well as the 6.5 I will be a happy camper!

Seems these type of discussions end up being a lot of complaining and 'proving' which cartridge is better. 7PRC is simply another option. No one is being forced to give up their current chambering and move to the PRC. Don't understand all the hate…if it isn't for you, that's fine, use whatever works for you. It's simply another option in the sweet spot for 7mm before getting into the really big overbores….7PRC, 280AI, 7RM, 7WSM, 7SAUM..pick one as they aren't all that different. Speeds on the factory ammo is an AMMO issue and not an inherent cartridge design flaw as I've seen plenty of guys posting loads that deliver performance in line with what was 'promised' for the cartridge.
I have a few 280AI and don't plan to switch but if I was starting a new build tomorrow I'd likely chose the 7PRC.

A lot of people miss this.
I experienced the same thing when I finally went from shooting 243's and 260's in comps to 6CM, 6.5CM, and 6.5x47L. These modern cartridge designs are just so much easier and less finicky to load for and they tend to stay shooting consistently for the life of the barrel without chasing your tail.
I don't believe that Hornady is the end all be all company for manufacturing quality and they're huge on marketing but damned if they don't know how to design cartridges whether it's their own or they're commercializing a wildcat. What they've done with the ARC's, Creedmoor's, and PRC's is pretty phenomenal and they've rallied the entire industry behind them.
Ultimate Reloader did a nice video about this a while back. The conclusion was if you already have a 7RM that shoots well, leave it alone. If you are looking to get into a 7mm rifle, the both are a good choice, but for off the shelf, heavy bullet factory support, go with the PRC. Is your RM a custom barrel, i.e. faster than the 9.5" twist in the spec? 175, 180, 190 & 195 call for faster twist rates than a 9.5.

As many said here its (prc) only advantage it has is that it was build from the ground up for heavy bullets and proper barrel twist. You can also add that it has a modern case too.
But if someone was building a custom rifle I'll take the RM. It holds a few more grains of powder so in theory I'll get higher velocities.
It's basically if you are looking for a Factory rifle and shoot factory ammo and want to shoot heavy ammo its prc. If your ok with shooting 175gr n under RM is great.
For custom then it doesn't really matter. Pick and shoot those beautiful 180gr 190 gr beauties and enjoy

Pick one....no chance. I prefer to have one of each. That is why I am the 7mm man....a cartridge whore.

I am constantly amazed by how the shooting public continues to be fooled by the magical marketing team at Hornady. This has been going on since the 204 Ruger was released and claimed to be the ballistic equal to full power 220 swift performance. On paper it was, over the chronograph, not even close. Since then, there has been a continual non stop marketing plan to over hype every single hornady release. I can not think of a single chambering that has come close to hornadys advertised numbers. Its common to see factory ammo fall short of advertised numbers but as has been mentioned, its common to see hornady products miss by 200 fps.
The creedmores were the same, the ARCs are the same, the PRCs are the same….. still people fall all over themselves when they hear the chants of "game changing" and rush out and buy these products and are disappointed in real life results compared to advertised numbers…..
However the next time some so called "Paid for" expert comes out on their youtube channel with a video claiming the exact same numbers as the manufacturer, people believe this as gospel and do it all over again.
That said, these chamberings are often, in my opinion, very good designs, with no need to be over hyped. I am a fan of many Hornady bullet offerings and use them even in my hyper performance wildcats often. I am not a huge fan of hornady brass but will admit when every other brass manufacturer basically was a ghost, hornady kept us options for loading brass.
Just wish they were more realistic in their marketing hype and they would have more happy customers. In reality, the 7mm prc is simply a 7mm rem mag in a new modern design, how is that not a good thing, still, the over hyping of the performance and under whelming real world results just aggravate customers……. I will admit though, their marketing plan works and has worked time and time again…..

That was 3 different lots
I let a buddy use my Garmin to test a 7mm PRC (Savage) 22" against his 7mm RM (Rem 700) with 26". We got no where near the advertised velocities on the PRC, but did with the RM. Even adding 50 fps to get it to 24" we were still shy 150 fps. I will say this, the Savage even though lighter was more pleasant to shoot. The 7 RM was in a heavier aftermarket stock and still kicked more. I am a .284/7mm fan, and would buy a 7 PRC, but it would be with a 24" barrel and in a better rifle than the Savage. With that being said, I'll stick to my 6.8 Western though. The difference in bullet diameter .007" really isn't going to matter much.
You're the only guy then not seeing what most of us are seeing then.. good barrel!!! But it's factory ammo so is what it is.. the risk you take shooting assembly line stuff. Hornadys stuff is pretty dang accurate I will say that

Love the 6.8 Western. I can chuck 165 ABLR's at 3000 with a 24" barrel and Magpro. Can get 2900 with 175 TGK and Magpro. Told you all, I am a cartridge whore....

I've reloaded Hornady bullets since 1972 and have always had good results. I decided to set this rifle up for factory ammo since it will be my son's one day (who's not going to reload). I did shoot Hornady 129gr sst when it first came out with excellent results. So I don't know if it's a quality issue or what their problem is but doing a bit of research I'm not the only bird to cry fowl, there seems to be a whole flock of us seeing the same results from their 7mmprc ammo. Just saying.
