HMMMM, that sounds like a great formula. ( it almost seems as though I have heard of that formula somewhere!!!!!) Hmmmmm!! Nice group dude, although really NOT surprised. That is almost a go to load with nearly any STW, and that rifle you have, well, it speaks for itself, and the deer better listen!!!!good job! That's the kind of accuracy that we all know these rifles will produce.

Yup, I know that feeling!!!!! I get it when I pick up the Sharpshooter, and also when I pick up the new one , especially with that stock!!! Fits like a glove. PFA.
P/ S, those winny triggers are awesome when they are set up right. Mine has absolutely no creep, and breaks at about 2 1/2 pounds. Enjoy my friend!!

Thanks JE. Is your shop taking on work these days? What type of stuff do you do with Winnie Model 70's. What kind of turnaround times are typical too if you are taking on work? I have one made in 2004, a super shadow I believe and I'm eventually going to have work done on it.

Sako7stw,Congrats on the Elk tag,There is a great brain trust here but you need to talk to my partner in crime 7STW ......the Sako's are a different critter but he has them figured out, Im sure he can give you a load to work off of,As for the Bergers IMO they are great for paper but thats about it,we are geting some really great groups and dead critters out of the Barnes 140 TSX which is a proven heavy hitter as well as the 140 Combined Technolgy which is also a proven bullet in this Caliber,Back them up with some RL22 or 25 and its on.......And I have to ask .....What Barrel contour does your rig have?.......Once again congrats the tag and welcome aboard
Thanks ButterBean! The bullets I have been looking at are TTSX bullets as well as Barnes' new bullets the LRX in 145gr and 168gr that have much better BC's. I am also looking at the Hornady Interbond 154gr. and the Nosler Accubond's. I really like the idea of them LRX as I already love the TTSX in my sons 7WSM and wife's 25-06 they shoot very well. I know I can push them a lot harder than I can the jacketed bullets. I just want something that will go long and hit HARD!
They no longer make the bullet I currently shoot which is a 127gr Groove Bullet. Very simular to the GS Custom bullets. I am running RL-22 & 215M's behind them at 3850fps and my best 5 shot group was .402" at 100 yards. The thing is a laser beam out to 500 yards! To bad I only have 17 of these loads left. I tried shooting the 120gr Laserheads by Lazzeroni (basically a coated TSX bullet) but I could not get them to stabilize at the higher velocity. Since then though I have learned more about BC's and the benefits of KE of the heavier bullets. That's why I am leaning towards the 145gr LRX as I can still send them screaming pretty good but with more KE and better BC I would think. Kind of a meet me in the middle bullet.
I have been thinking about using H-1000, Retumbo, Magnum, as well as the RL-22 or RL-25 powders. I have found RL-22 to be sensitive to temp changes with my current load. I had to reduce it some as when it was cold it would shoot fine but if my loads were warm, like when Antelope hunting, it would pop the primers.
My gun is basically an all standerd Sako M995 AKA TRG-S. I added a Vias brake and coated the stock for better grip as well as added a Pac. butt pad. It is topped with a Bausch & Lomb 4-16x50mm Elite 4000. I think I have had this setup since 1997ish.

Sounds like a really sweet rig I havent shot anything other than the TSX's but I feel sure any of the Barnes Bullets are on the money and I went thru the light fast bullet thing myself but I see your on the right track now....Your on the money about the RL22,She is might sensitive past 85 degrees but under that she is good to go, If your set on trying something else I would lean towards the H-1000 It shoots really good behind the TSX 140's an its really stable Ive shot it in the hot and the cold and its right on the money but I always end up with the RL22 just like the way it feels I reckon, Take care

Sako7stw, congrats on the elk tag, and on the house you are building. I did get my Sako 75 to shoot, but she is finicky. My present load that is very repeatable, is 79.6-rl22 -140 TSX@ 3.702 OAL. Velocity is right at 3408 ave. SD, and ES very low. Also had good luck with 75.5- rl22-162 Hornady A Max. I am told, but can not verify that these WILL do the job on deer and elk. Additionally, I got some 160 Speer Grand Slams to shoot pretty good also, with the same load. MY rifle has shown me that it likes RL22. it did not care for H1000. I have since that time been using RL25 in two other STW's and they love it. Have not tried it in the Sako. Overall, I am really charmed with the performance of the TSX's. I am confident that when November rolls around, that when the hammer drops, so will the deer. Pretty fed up with tracking wounded deer, shot with other bullets. Another load that I have ran into, that seems to show good promise repeatedly, is 79.4-rl25-154 Hornady Spirepoint. I don't know if they make it any more, but I have two boxes of them. They have always had a good rep. My own all time favorite loads 79.3-rl22-140 nosler CT, 215 fed. Primer @ 3.660. That load my friend is like dead deer lightening. ( they never usually hear the shot). My Sako was hard to find it's sweet spot. Just be careful on you OAL. It may fit in the mag, but you can sometimes not be able to remove a loaded round if need be.

My elk rifle just took a dump, the Krieger barrel has finally given up on my 300 Weatherby. I have a new 7STW as a backup. I have killed one small 5X5 raghorn with a 30 caliber 180 Accubond at 300 yards. The bullet penetrated the rib cage and exploded. Dead elk but I'm glad I had a broadside shot !
Has anybody out there actually shot a bull elkwith the 7mm Accubond 160gr. bullet ? If so at what range and how did the bullet perform?
