7mm saum - load data help!

I use 62 grains RL 26 behind a 162 eldm. I use sorted remington brass, neck turned for 3.5 thou clearance and br2 primers .
I am getting 3170 fps this out of a 30 inch kreiger and NEAR MANUFACTURING muzzle brake( this brake is the cat,s meow as far as I am concerned) with this load.This load is about a grain under max so is easy on the brass. My best group at 1300 yards was 2.75 inch but typically is more like 5-6 inch ( good conditions of course).....

Does anyone have any input on where to start in a short action? Or have quickload?

RL26 is a good powder for a 7saum. My load is 62.5grains behind the 180hybrid lit with a CCIBR2 primer. I do not get any pressure signs with this load. I think 58grains is a safe place to start. Move up in .5grain increments.

An lot of guys run 60-61 grains in a true short action with coal around 2.950 with 180 vlds. You need a CCI 250 or Fed 215 with RL26 IMO. It's a dense double base powder. It's what Aliant did all there testing with. Run those 180 Hybrids 10-25 off and you should see something. I use both Fed 215 and 250's in mine. (2) different barrels. I love the 7 Saum. I'll always have one.

I have 2 full custom 7mm saum and am getting a remington sendero rebarreled to one right now. I tested primers pretty extensively in this cartridge and Personally I found mag primers weren't quite as good. I have burned out several barrels and still have 7 prechambered ready to go. Now, if I was hunting in cold weather there is a good chance I would use mag primers.

Ok, thanks for the input thus far - looks like I could start at 57-58gr and work up.

would a mag primers cause the loads to reach max pressure at a lower powder charge? Or is that flawed thinking

I found I got lower standard deviation with regular primers.For long range this is extremely important. If you are only shooting out to 500-600 yards or so it,s no big deal. If you are shooting 1000- 1500 yards it is a huge deal...You are correct in your assumption you will reach max pressure with a lower powder charge when using mag primers( usually about a grain less)...

I should stipulate that my 7saum is built on a long-action and so the bullet is seated out as far as possible (can't recall COAL right now).

My 62.5grain load runs 2950.

I'm building a 7mm SAUM on a short action and am hoping to get some starting points with some guy's pet loads. Planning on using ADG brass, federal 215m primers, and berger 180gr hybrids.

I have H1000, RL26 and H4831sc on hand that I could use as well.

Several people have given me RL 26 recommendations and I thought you might have some recent feed back on that.

RL26 was the powder for me too. Single digit sd's and .1-.2 moa groups

Sorry to hear you have a Hawk Hill barrel. I have two of them - one on my 7saum and a 260rem. Both are TERRIBLE. Hawk Hill made the barrel and did the install. After I reported terrible results, they took the rifle back four times and couldn't get it to shoot the way it should. I had to get another gunsmith to go over the rifle and he reported he went through his regular Quality Control checklist on the rifles and EVERYTHING he checked was off or wrong. Rifles shoot ok now.
