7mm Rem Mag verse 7mm LRM

As a side note, we are shooting the 180 7mm scenar with excellent success so far. High bc and was much easier to find a good load than my 180 bergers were. Both shoot well, just a slight edge in our guns to the scenar. And they worked good on the 2 critters that were shot last year.

If you have a 300 that is working well, be kind of hard to switch though.

that why I have been asking the questions on the 7s. the 300 has never let me down, in all prbabibility I'll stay with the 300 in the new rifle

I have a 7RM and as great as it is with 180's, I really wish I had a 300 win mag. My gun shoots .5 moa or less out to 700 and I have had people tell me I am crazy to get rid of it but I would do it. 300 win with 215's just adds that little extra "job security" over the 7RM. Realistically I would have to get for my gun would be more than anyone would pay so I am just stuck with the old girl I guess. Lol

The LRM case has a longer neck to match up better with heavy VLD bullets. There is no belt, so for a reloader, he will not have to add the extra base sizing operation and die to resize the portion just forward of the belt. Also, headspacing is on the shoulder vs the belt (at lease initially).

For three years we've been instock 98% percent of the time. Brass is 1.32 ea. Dies are always on the shelf. We have a bushing die from Hornady.

Its been a great cartridge for us, but we love the 7 Rem Mag as well. Good luck on you build.

Hey Aaron, do yall have any Redding dies in stock? Also, do yall rent reamers, or do you have to send it in? Also, can you link me to the webstore to where you can order brass?

I would not mind building one in the future, knowing this info now. As yall are all aware, I can never have enough 7mm's. :D

You will need to call 307.762.3240 to purchase brass. We do not carry Redding Dies, only Custom Hornady. Fred Zeglin at 4-D reamer rentals will be your contact for a reamer rental.

I can't find anything wrong with having a 300 WM and something in .284. Is it possible to have too many rifles? I have a very accurate 300 Rum and I am still building a 7 Remington. I can find a good reason to build anything hotter than the 7mm Remington. It is a good combination of long bbl life, available loading components and very accurate.

Allow me to answer that question.....No.

Don't forget that the 7mm 195 Berger is coming this summer, I've heard rumors of a G1 BC of .75+! A 7mm LRM with an 8 twist would be just the ticket for that badboy.

Actually, according to Berger, the initial test bullets they made produced a G1 of .794, and a G7 of .406. These BC's are almost as high as the Berger 338 300gr OTM's. Should give the .338's a hell of a run for their money... :D

So, I'm anxious to see how they turned out, and if they are still going to have those incredible BC's, like their test bullets did.

well I have made a decision to go ahead and build a 7mm rem mag. My 300 is starting to come around with a little more tweeking. No point having to guns of same cal. After further research not much difference between both 7s approx 100fps with 180 vld. After the 7LRM and Nosler 28 have been out longer with more users for more info I could change. I beleive a person could just have his 7RM chamber rereamed for the lrm or 28 without rebarreling could you not???

You can certainly go straight to the 7mm STW by reaming out the 7mm Rem.

The other two should work as well but you'd have to talk to a gunsmith to be sure.

One thing i'll warn you about is that a lot of gunsmiths will not rechamber a barrel at all, they want a blank slate to work with only so talk to whomever you are having do this build and make sure they are willing to "up chamber" so to speak in the future if that is the way you are leaning. If not you'll just have to make the decision now.

Should you consider rechambering ask about the reamer. I once talked to Dave Kiff and discovered that there are two STW reamers that he makes. One is for rechambering the 7 Rem mag. It is just a tad larger to ensure it will fully clean up the existing chamber.

One thing that would concern me is how well the throat would be cleaned up. What if the throat on the 7 Rem mag was longish and the new reamer's throat was short. You could end up with an area where the two throats met. I would think the longer 7 LRM or 28 Nosler would clean up the old throat but can't swear to it.
