7MM REM MAG BULLETS

Good morning, i just recently picked up a Remington 700 in 7mm rem mag im going to make into a light weight ish hunting rifle for midwest whitetails and also some western game ( antelope, mule deer, hopefully elk). i was wondering what bullet you guys like in 7mm. i was debating about going all copper on this one with like a barnes TTSX or something. Also considering the Nosler accubond long range and Hornady ELD-X, yes i know these arent solid copper bullets. I use the barnes in a .243 and they are very impressive and i use the ELD-X in .308 and have no complaints they are very accurate and cheap compared to others.. Im open to any suggestions those were just the couple i was looking at.. Thanks guys.

What kind of range are you expecting to hunt at? Diff than how far do you want to shoot.

well i probably will keep it under 500 yards for actually shots on game but will try to make them as close as possible. but will probably shoot some steel at much further distances with the same round.

Our 143g Hammer Hunter would be an excellent choice. Good bc and great vel makes it a tough bullet to beat in the 7's until you start hunting beyond 800y. You should expect to see near 3300 fps with this one.

Call or email Steve at Hammer Bullets. He loaded a round for my Cooper 7mm and it's an absolute beast. I just got another 7mm and he will be doing the load for this one as well.

I haven't had a whole lot of experience with the 7mm ReMag, however I have an Encore, 28 inch, ProHunter barrel in 7mm RemMag. It really likes the Nosler 140gr Accubonds; 5 shot ragged hole at 100yds.This wasn't a load that I tailored or worked up for this rifle, it was something that I had powder for, and the load was one-grain under the max load from the manual. I haven't shot Barnes bullets in the 7mm RemMag, and haven't played with the 7mm RemMag past 100yds. I have had experience with the Barnes bullets in my 35 Whelen and .358 Winchester. With 225 gr Bares TSX bullets in the Whelen it is okay out to 100yds (1-1 1/2 inches), however it likes Sierra 225gr BT Gamekings out to 300yds. I shoot the Barnes 200gr TTSX in the .358 Winchester and can say the same with this caliber also. I black bear hunt in Maine, so the shots are up close, and what I can say up close is that the Barnes bullets are by far my first choice, with Accubonds being a second choice if I cannot get the Barnes bullets. All the bear that I have shot with the TTX and TTSX have been "bang-thump" , total pass throughs with large exit holes.

steve-- what speeds do you expect to see with that 143 and a 24" 7wsm (9.5 twist)? same as the 7 rem mag? or slightly less? after I'm done working up my 7 rm load I just picked up a 7 wsm also that I will probably test them in--hope to get to the range with the 7rm this weekend

Hoping that your twist is 9.25". Maybe slower by 50fps. Close enough that the personality of the rifles could make it the other way around.

I've killed lots of elk with the 154gr hornady interlock in my old ruger m77. for my long range 7mm rem Mag I use the 168gr Berger vld out to 1400yrds

nope, 9.5 twist in 24" win 70 but I'm at 6500+ (up to 11000msl) so using your speeds for the 7 rem mag I'm at 1.84 on berger's stability calculator

I've not had good luck with the barnes in 7mm. It's such a dense bullet I wasn't seeing much terminal damage. 140 TTSX at 3200 fps. Have had much better luck with Nosler BT and Accubonds. Lots of folks swear by the Bergers for longer range western hunting.
