7mm Rem mag and Berger bullets

i am running 7828, 66.6 gr, kreiger 26in barrel, with the 168 i am getting a 3023 ave, SD of 9, extreme spread of about 35fps

Hey Shawn, according to my EX-BAL program using the 180vld zeroed at 100yds and coming up 10moa to zero at 570yds the velocity is 2956. That is based on 1000 feet elevation, 59 degrees, and 78% humidity. I believe you can use the G7 program on this forum to validate it there too. I'm shooting 72grs H1000 to get 3035fps out of my 7mag 26" barrel, 215m primer. Shoots lights out too. At 72.5grs of Retumbo I was getting 3110 and awesome groups out to 500yds, but the ES killed me at the longer ranges. Right now I'm working on breaking in a 28" Broughton 5c with the 180's out of a 7mm-375Ruger and getting 3153fps with 73.5grs H1000, 215m.

Thanks moombaskier. I figured my chrony was off. So i will try going a bit higher and see where my max load is. My elevation is 3400ft so it wont be far off what you have. 2950 out of a 7rem mag should be pretty satisfactory i would think.

Hey Moombaskier, is that 7mag you refered to in your post a 7 rem mag? And are you running a Broughton 5c barrel on that gun as well? You are getting the kind of velocities I am hoping to get out of my gun. I am running a 5c with a 1 in 9" twist 26" long and have been slowly working up loads and have yet to see any sign of pressure. Once I finish load development on the 168 VLDs I plan on moving to the 180 VLDs. It seems like the popular powder for a more consistent ES is the H1000 so I am going to get some and give it a try with the 180s. My goal is to shoot 1/2 moa with the 180s at 3000fps+ and it seems like that is possible from the info you have posted.

I'm shooting the 180's out of a 7LRM which is a 7mm-375Ruger that I had GunWerks chamber for me. That barrel is a Broughton 5C, 5.75 contour, fluted and finshed at 28". When I referred to the 7mag it is a 7mmRemington mag. with the 26" factory tube. I got real lucky with that one. It broke in well and with a new trigger is a real shooter. I never shot the 180's out of it, just the 168's. Hope that helps?

I shoot a 7REM Mag from a Broughton 1-9 twist at 26". My load for Berger 168's is 70.5 gr H-1000 with FED 210 M primers. running 3050 fps and under 1/2 MOA to 815 yards. I got lower E/S with the 210M's.

my final load is 70.5gr of H1000 also but its with the 180's. i could still go higher but this load gave me the best accuracy at 2930 fps. the rifle is a 1-9" lilja barrels 26". there are no pressure signs or a stiff bolt at all.

To get the 180gr berger going at 3000fps in the 7mm Rem you really need to lengthen the short 7mm Rem throat to max the powder space. I've seen this done and it works.lightbulb

Thank you so much 260shooter that is excellent information and it gives me something to work my loads toward. It seems that H1000 is the powder to go with so I am going to get some and give it a try. Also the cooler primer thing is interesting I have never shot any thing but magnum primers in my magnums so I am going to have to play with that to.

I think my rifle has a pretty long throat I have not loaded any 180s to shoot yet but my COAL test cartridge measures 3.553" COAL for my 7 rem mag to touch the lands and the boattail is just entering the neck of the case..

Shawnb what primer size has worked best for you? I hear the 210m works good with the H1000.

Hi,
Anyone know for sure or have a really good guess on what kind of fps I could expect for a 180 grain berger in a 7mm rem mag with 66 grain of RL25, nosler brass, federal 215 primer 26 inch barrel?
Thanks, Brad.
