In the world of long range accuracy, speed only helps.
Try and convince any of the top 1000 yard Benchrest shooters that faster is always better.
Good luck with that.

"Speed ONLY helps" is not "faster is always better".Try and convince any of the top 1000 yard Benchrest shooters that faster is always better.

This isnt benchrest. This is hunting.
Tikka's are all long actions. You want the best possible chance of hitting and killing an animal.
Out of your choices the 7 wsm does it. 7 rem mag would be better though.
Good luck!

No worries, I love a good debate.
>Great.
If you build a SAUM, based on it shooting the 180 vld at 2900 at 1/2 MOA, but for some reason that barrel wont shoot it well, what do you do?
>I would not build a SAUM to shoot 180g bullets. The WSM or Rem mag will do a better job.
With the 7 Rem mag, you are at least 150 Fps faster, so you have the same chance of it shooting well, but if it doesn't, you can move up a weight and still have a good short range trajectory. Or, you can go down a node, and still have most of what you wanted.
Chris
Totally.
For overall performance and case efficiency I vote - 7MMSAUM!!
