7mag and 180bergers?

Well just got ahold of 8lbs of retumbo my cousin happened to get a rain day at work and he stopped at the local Sportmen Warehouse and asked the guy looked didn't see none but he said he would check the inventory on the computer, it said they had 1 in stock. So he went back and searched a little more and found it. I think I really just got lucky on snagging this.

What's your barrel length? H4831 wouldn't give me any speed with 168s. I'd think it would be worse with 180s. I should have tried Retumbo for more speed, but I tried H1000 first and it's so accurate I quit.

I shoot 7mm Weatherby, halfway between 7mm rem and 28 nosler. I believe H1000 is the sweet spot for the Weatherby and the rem mag. Both light well with 210match up to about 74 grains down to sub zero temps.

Less velocity than RL powders, but REALLY temp stable. Odd behavior in H1000 in that you will find a SCREAMER group by shooting a ladder that gets you to 3/4" group. Follow it with loads in .1 grain increments both sides. Generally pretty easy to find a 3/8" - 1/4" group. Stupid consistent.

I really like the 180 Berger's. Stupid awesome. Vld has a different jacket than the Vld-h. Needs a different load, both equally accurate. Like a light switch....

In my Weatherby I got better velocity with H1000 but in the 7mm rem mag you may find h4831 a better fit. Depends on your barrel combo. Retombo will work, but may be dirtier until you get to the higher volumes.

7mm bee & 7mm rem have nearly identical case capacity at 82gr +-. The bee advantage is a mile of freebore and long bullet seating. Throat them equally and they'll run within 50 fps of each other. 28 nosler has 20gr more capacity than either case.

I don't shoot Bergers in my 7mm RM and I won't until they fix their meplats. I asked Berger why don't they fix them by pointing or tipping them. Their reply wasn't nice. Either way I'm shooting Hornady ELD-X with R22. Works great!
In your 7 MM Mag and ELD-X bullets. What have you found to be a consistent bullet seating depth. I know it varies but an average can help. Do they like a large jump or a typical .015-.020 ?

I'm shooting 180-hybrids with 215M primer. Tried both H1000 and Retumbo and found a node right around 2990fps with both. I also found Retumbo to be more forgiving with both accuracy and pressure so settled on 69.0 grains with crazy low ES & SD. Won't be changing this combo anytime soon

My 7mm RM is a legit .5 MOA shooter (1000yds) with 69.1 grns of H1000, norma brass, Fed 215 and 180 HVLD's seated .010 into the lands. Getting right at 2965 fps

Proof CF 8.4 twist, sendero contour

This is pretty much exactly the load I worked up for my Nephews Rbros. 7 mag. except its .010 off the lands.
My Brother and his wife both just shot Yukon moose with it and he said the 180 Bergers performed flawlessly at 355 and 305 yards, made a believer outa him with the Bergers.
He got his Dall Sheep at 330 yards and Caribou at 550 with a 6.5x06AI that I developed a load for and he told me the 140 Berger's preformed flawlessly also.

Hey Fellas, what is the typical barrel length y'all are running for the 7mm mag? Is it mostly 26" or are there some 28" ones out there?
