7828 ssc what can i expect

Even at a lot change, 1 full grain is huge especially at near max pressure if the case?
It may be just the way it packed in the case, and the fill % difference with long sticks vs stubby ones. I don't know. I still have some 7828 long cut, so maybe I'll load up a couple rounds in the 7 PRC and compare the velocities to those I shot today. Any excuse to load and shoot....

No need for an excuse to shoot! Maybe an excuse for a restroom break tho 🤣

Here's a question…anybody see any 7828 in the last year on a shelf?
Regular 7828 (long cut) has unfortunately been discontinued and the 7828ssc is supposed to be the same burn rate however it does not give the same fill rate that I like in my 7rum. I will be switching over to Retumbo once I am out of my old school 7828 do to this reason.
A lower fill rate has a greater chance of inconsistencies and something I recently learned on this forum on a different thread is that too low of fill rate can be very dangerous do to presure spikes.
Anyone using 7828 in large cases should be aware of this and pay attention to the fill rate in your loads.
One up side to going to Retumbo (when you can find it) is that it is way more temp stable.

I meant any version of 7828. I bought an 8 lb a couple years ago, and haven't seen it since. SSC that is.

Why can't you work up a load for ssc using hodgdons reloading data site?

Boy I'm not sure last time I have seen any on the shelf. But then again I have not really been looking for it. Still have a couple pounds and like I mentioned I plan on going to Retumbo as long as gun likes it. I did pick up some Retumbo couple days ago at Blacksheep in CDA.
I can work up a load for ssc but just don't get as good of case fill and Retumbo is also much less temp sensitive

😩 it's showing unavailable too
I was referring to this post 👇
IMR 4831 is every where! MidwayUSA has it right now!
Hodgdon website has IMR 4831. I just double checked and it's there. I seen it and I don't like the new price. 😳
Edit: looks like only one pounder's available. Sorry victor3ranger

The Hodgdon and acquired lines of powder are expected to have two more price increases in 2024. Local gun shops in my are have much better inventories than online and manufacture sales. The local guys are selling mostly retail, a few above but not paying shipping or hazmat is great.
