7-300 or 28 nosler

You're free to do what you will and share it with us. Nothing Broz has to say on the subject of guns, ammo, loading, or anything else needs to be taken with a grain of salt, his credibility is beyond reproach.
Nothing to do with his credibility either. What was done was a comparison of 2 different rifles rather than a comparison of 2 different cartridges. So long as you look at it that way, theres no problem. Nothing personal with me at all, its irrelevant to me who made the video. I am basing what I said from its content.

Looking forward to "your apples to apples comparison version" as you noted and hopefully soon.

I have a 7mm-300WSM and it shoots the 180 Berger Hunting VLD at 3010 FPS from a 26 inch barrel. It has been a awesome round but the 28 Nosler is just a hair better from what I read. Not going to give up my current gun but I can see the attraction to the Nosler. I have a 7mm SAUM that shoots the 180 Hybrid at 2895 which does everything I would want also. Lots of good options out there, you just need to choose one and shoot the heck out of it.

I plan to chamber a barrel in 300 wm, run it to pressure, then rechamber it in 30 nosler and do the same. Same barrel, powder, action, brass manufacture, throats on the reamers, ext. That will be a real comparison. I will post it here

Excellent! Just like loading, isolate what it is you're wanting to test. It's regular ROCKET SCIENCE:D

Alex,
Why use the same barrel? Why not two of the same barrels, spec for spec?

For example Ed (Feenix) and Rhian (bigngreen) are both people that I argue with alot, but I have alot of respect for them for everything they bring to the site. Wildrose is one that I often agree with, and have lots of respect for him as well. Agree or disagree, it's important to respect each other and treat them like you would want to be treated. We don't always have to agree, but it's important to remember the internet is only as good of a tool as you make it...And there's no point in getting ****ed over things that are said on the internet just because we have differing opinions.
Darn tootin'

You could and get pretty solid results in my opinion, but velocity and pressures can vary in the same brand some, and can vary a LOT in different brands. To do a true comparison you need to try and isolate what your comparing by reducing variables. Plus this wont cost me much to do. I got the barrel donated by one of my favorite barrel makers, Ill put it on my action and when the test is done Ill probably give it away.

They will also vary greatly in most barrels between initial breakin and reaching 100rds down the tube at which time they tend to settle down.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Just built a 7-300 specks : rem action 26" Wilson barrel 1-8 180 eldm .796 bc 3041 fps 74.0 gn h1000

975 yds excellent bullet performance. First shot pass thru just behind the shoulders. The second was in the lower third of the shoulder blade stoping on the opposite rib.

Try to find any 28 Nosler brass now. I toyed with both before building and settled on the 7-300. Nosler winmag brass is everywhere and a lot cheaper.

Nice. How did the bullet perform? I thought about trying the 180 eldm. Sounds like the first shot was right where it should have went, wondering why you needed a second? Did it not open well?
