6 GT for Hunting Rifle

Dropped off my Tikka CTR 6.5 CM at Bug Holes to get a rebarrel this morning. I decided to go 6 GT for barrel life, accuracy, velocity, light recoil and 1:7.5 twist to shoot heavies.

I've gone 3/3 on deer this season including one at 501 yards with a Howa Mini 6mm ARC and 108 ELDM handloads. I figured the 6 GT will get me an extra 200 FPS without sacrificing too much in throat wear.

Anyone hunt deer sized game with the 6 GT? Seems like it will be a good balance of spotting hits on long shots and effectiveness.

I've killed deer with 6gt(108 elite hunter, 2950mv) it works but needs a 24in barrel to get speed without pressure. I prefer the 6cm as I can get gt velocity from a 6" shorter barrel and use a suppressor. Yes I might lose some barrel life, but that's not a problem for me.

I elected to get a 22" threaded to shoot with my can. I've killed 3 deer stone super dead with a 6 ARC shooting 108 ELDMS 2650 so I'm still probably going to gain 150-200 FPS with the 6 GT.

I tried feeding 6gt from my ctr mags and it was inconsistent, regular Tikka poly M mags ran fine. Be interested in your findings.

I tried to find more info on 6 GT and CTR mags. Greg at Bug Holes cycled some dummy rounds in the mag and they seemed fine.

It's just a toned down 6 creed that's very accurate. Sometimes load cycling issues but great cartridge so yeah it works cause a creed does for sure.

Tikka ctr and aics mags aren't compatible as built from Tikka. However, there are aics bottom metals that'll fit the ctr inlet.

Looks like Mountain Tactical discontinued their conversion kit. Doesn't appear to be active on their site.

I saw some options internationally.

I'll roll the dice on the 6GT working in the CTR mag.

BTW you are one of the few people on the Internet that has posted anything about CTR mags and 6 GT.

I don't want unreliable feeding on a hunting rifle and don't want to sink more money buying a conversion kit. I'm considering changing my order to 6 Creed.
