6.5x284

Factory savage longrange Hunter 6.5/284 no modifications. 6.5/284 performed well in 1000 yd benchrest.
I won a Savage LRH in 6.5x284 at a Fun/EggShoot about a dozen years ago when first introduced. Savage had sponsored the event. I was quite surprised with its LR performance which held up for well over 1000 rounds. I ultimately replaced the barrel with a Criterion Pre-fit, and stock with a light, MPA chassis…it continues to shoot superbly.

Hey Greyfox, quick question.
Which primer do you prefer to use with Retumbo and the 140 VLD? I've read past posts and you listed both, the 210 and the 215, as the go to primer.
I've got a new barrel being chambered and have plenty of Retumbo, 140 Bergers and 210,215 and BR2.
Thanks

Doug, I have used all three(Fed210M,215M,and BR2) primers with Retumbo/140Berger HVLD's. While I have had good/solid loads in my rifles with all three,, I prefer the Fed210's, which have "usually" produced comparable accuracy but tighter ES in my rifles. The BR2's and 210's produce comparable velocity's with Retumbo. I have found that 215's will developer MV's that are 25-35FPS higher with the same charge weight of Retumbo, or equivalent to a .5gr charge weight to match the MV of the 210 and BR2. I like to run the 140's at 2975-3000 FPS which can be achieved with all three primers/Retumbo in a +24" barrel.

Thank Greyfox. I appreciate it.
