6.5 PRC Discussion

It does seem like the the .300 win mag with 200+ grain bullets and h1000 is one of those truly specific "'match made in heaven" combinations...
I haven't seen this stated often. Of all the rifles I have and shoot my most accurate is a 300 WM using H1000 & 190/200 SMKs. Always….one ragged hole. Though I get great accuracy with RL-26 with more speed. It just loves the 190/200 SMKs

Have you tried those Badlands at longer ranges yet? Just curious as I'm trying to work into my 131 HH at 500 yards as ballistic CoE is not adding up. Shoots great at 100 but at 500 it's not adding up. Having to back into the coefficient to get ballistic apps to work properly. Going to keep trying but I'm losing patience and may go back to Berger's or Noslers. The Hammers shoot lights out at 100,200 and 300 but then things start falling apart for me.
Is the calculated drop just not lining up, or are the groups just opening up and not being consistent. The reason I ask is a buddy of mine was shooting some Hammer bullets in an 338 Edge with a twist that was supposed to be fast enough according to Hammer. They shot bug holes at 100 yards and then when we took it out to 500 yards they were all over the place. We looked at the target and the ones that actually hit it were going through it sideways. He had to switch to a lighter bullet because after about 300 yards the bullets started tumbling.

Opened up a little, 12-15" low, not tumbling though. Running 7.5 twist and verified twist also. Going to back into the BC and see how it does. Not 100% set on these 131's yet. Still testing and am going to switch up powders also. RL26 is great but not so much in elevated temps.

I am having a time getting the Badlands Bulldozer 2's in 125 gr to settle in yet with IMR4831 ,so I'm going to try IMR7828ssc since I can not find any RL-26 getting low on H-1000 I use it for my 300WSM in a terminus apollo lite with Barlien carbon bbl.

I slowed my 6.5 PRC , 7.5 twist down a bit 2863 f/s with using FED GM210M primers and Imr 4831 groups are stable to 600 yds with 131 HH's
Wouldn't lower velocity result in lower stability factor? I'm surprised that would be more stable than a higher velocity node.

I'm having a heck of time with RL26 during the summer months. No temp stability at all. One day it's great and the next day a 10 degree temp swing and it's got all sorts of issues and velocity shifts. I like the powder when it's cool out but it sucks when it's hot.

Have you tried h4831sc? It can get slightly faster velocities with lower charge weight than h1000. RL26 on the other hand would be my cold weather load.

High velocity does not always mead stability, depending on twist the stability is where the bullet shows to be in my experience. I never chase the fastest load and I don't burn out my barrels as some as most do, doing so. If my load reaches a higher velocity so be it, but for hunting loads dead is dead when accuracy is paramount. Just saying. to each their own. All I can go by is the results. plus my barrel length is 24" not 26" like most in a 6.5 PRC

This is a Browning x bolt I just did some load development for
tried 3 different powders and all have shot quite well but opted for the H4831sc
.25 moa and es of 2
RL26 got almost 3300 fps and printed .5 inch groups but stayed with h4831sc for the temp stability especially for hunting the 100+ degree days

Hey bud (hate to call you by your avatar 😎). You'd really help me out if you could share your seating depth on these with the H4831sc..? Working at starting loads for the same projo on my son's PRC.
