6.5-300 Weatherby?

I thought this thread was about the 6.5 x 300 wby. Congratulations mtgunner you have successfully hy jacked this thread, maybe Len can chime in and stop this stuff.

Norma and Lapua need to wake up and get on the band wagon. I've been waiting for factory brass for their big .338s necked down to .264! :D

Nearly a hundred grains in a .264 bore !! Something's gotta give and I think it will be sooner rather than later ! :D

Personally I think this is the dumbest idea Weatherby has ever come up with...It's going to be a flop once your average idiot realizes that the barrels are going to be trashed after 500-600 rounds, and factory ammo is going to be absolutely ridiculous in price. This is almost as dumb as them swapping from Kriegers to Criterions a decade ago, and not telling anyone, and charging more money for the guns, after buying cheaper/inferior parts... Like I have said since this cartridge was first whispered about on the internet... It would have been/will be much more successful if they had built it off the .257/.270/7mm Wby case.

But, all this was because they were trying to keep up with that new super-6.5 market that Nosler created, that has already almost completely flopped. It seemed like once the .28 Nosler was released to the general public, it made the .26 Nosler almost completely obsolete once word got around that the barrel life is less than 750 rounds.

I personally have a love affair with super fast 6.5's. As long as a guy knows the limitations of the round and treats it as such, it's all good. We have a reamer on the shelf that is a 26-338Lap Imp. It's just waiting for the next build opportunity. This thread peaks my desire to move forward with it as soon as we can. We tried this a couple years ago on the 300rum imp. Problem was weak brass and unstable powders. We burned up a couple barrels trying to get it to run consistently. I can say this for sure...Running near 4000fps and dialing only 2moa at 600y is stinking fun. With recoil like a 22mag.

We now have the ability to design a bullet for the chamber and twist. So I hold out hope that we can get better results this time with the better brass.

So anyway I think the 6.5-300WBY is a great idea.

Yes I believe you will have better success with a solid construction bullet for aggressive twist, mega velocity barrel.

Guys trying to get that kind of super performance with conventional bullets may have problems.

When I finish doing a load with the Nosler Accubond 140 I think I will do one with your 125 grainer. I think the 140 will do about 3,450. I have no idea how fast the 125 will go, but I bet 3,550 - 3,600 should be doable.

If the big Weatherby had been available when I made the wildcat I would have use the 6.5-.300 Weatherby instead.

I look forward to you shooting them out of a great rifle. :)

Just load all 100 up to max and let em' fly on a 85 degree plus day, on the way home order your new barrel ! You deserve it after this thread, load up them 120's and see how much of the first 3 inches of rifling you can remove....did it with a 22/250 on a 90 + day and it looked like a .410 for about 3 inch, you can easily beat that with this horse, after all the economy needs a little boost !!

Warning! This thread is more than 9 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
