6.5-284 load development (changing powder)

Im shooting 57 grn retumbo cci large rifle primers 143 eldx at a little more then 3000 fps shoots awesome very accurate no pressure signs

What brass we're you using? I'm trying to find data on retumbo for the 6.5-284 but can't unfortunately. Trying to figure where I should start on my ladder loads. I ended up prepping 50 pieces of brass tonight

I'm using Lapua brass btw.

Did you start at 56 and work up?

Yes i started at 56grns and did a ladder test going up .3 grn my 56.6 and 56.9 had amost say speed only like 6-10 fps difference so i went to 57 loaded 10 shot 1 clean boot then did 3. 3 shot groups to test accuracy giving adiquete time to cool between each group and all the groups were .5 moa or less at 100yrds. So loaded them up and went from 200 out to 700 yrds and all shot under moa.

If you want velocity, RL 26 is going to be king. In my 280 AI it has been finicky, but in my 6mm-284 it shoots tight little holes. I'd recommend it. I'm getting 100 - 150 fps over any other powder i've tried.

For recoil, you may want to try one of these:

Some days I take up to four rifles at once to rotate while barrels cool, and many are 270+ and magnums. I'll put 80-100 rounds of some beastly rifles without breaks some days. I stopped using lead sleds because of the stress it put on the rifles. This thing is worth the money, and there's no shame in using one.

I run H1000, h4350, and recently started testing with RL26. I've had great results with RL26 in my 6.5 Creedmoor. Here's a 5 shot group from this past weekend using RL26. As stated above, RL26 rules.

Lots of good info since you posted. I prefer Retumbo and RL26. I have used RL 26 in my PRS 243, my PRS 6.5 creed, and 2 6.5-284's. It works well in all. Retumbo seems to work better for me in the longer barreled 6.5-284's.

What has worked for me in the 6.5-284 is the following with 140-147 grain bullet weights:
RL26...51.5-53 grains. Retumbo 55-57
