As could I…"Inaccurate" loads are less than an inch. I could probably live with that.

Not for tiny PDogs. As could I…
Ah! I might have put two and two together, that no matter how great hammers are and how fast they're going, your 17 caliber rifle wasn't for big game hunting haha. Not for tiny PDogs.
Yup, prarie dog rifles need to be half moa or less if your shooting much past 200 yards, not much margin for error on a target the size of a pop can at 500 yards!Ah! There are only 2 examples of successful handloading efforts toward 5000 fps that I'm presently aware of.
There's an article about a guy who broke 5100 with a 30 grain Berger out of a .22-284
There's a few YouTube videos by a guy named Glen Butler I think who got over 5000 with a 300 win mag using accelerator type sabots handloading. Got a 55 grain doing 5k. I believe at those speeds it melted half inch holes in AR500!
The second post is from today in a forum about 22/284. I posted it because it has a link to the article. Here's a great read on the .22-284 but as you note it only goes up to 75 grain bullets. Fella named Bruce Potts built one and shared his findings with those who'd be interested.
The highlight for me is a 30 grain Berger doing 5100+ fpsWildcatting: Warp Speed Mr Sulu
Bruce Potts might have just created the ultimate barrel-burner with his latest whacky, wildcat creation, how does 5000 fps+ sound?www.gunmart.net
Good choice on the projectile. A good friend build a .17-220 swift and the only thing he can get to hold together is the Vmax and even they blow up every 3rd round. He is gonna try the hammers soonLet the 5000 FPS pursuit begin. Spray painting over the weekend. Forming case tomorrow. Loading on Tuesday. Testing on Thursday!!!
