Its a wantWhy is the speed of a very small bullet important for a varmint rifle? You were talking long range shooting ? nothing here even makes any kind of sense. You have to have accuracy for long range.
Geez, Willy, i think these guys are all nuts. If their hormones just won't calm down, use a 6.5-06 (known to us old guys as a .256 Newton) or a 6.5-300 Wby. The coyote won't care. It's a miss or DRT.Google "eargesplitten loudenboomer"
400+ yard coyotes doesn't count? What does this have to do with long range hunting?
Found this on Accurate shooter...
:...It takes a special barrel to shoot the .17 Incinerator. Kent Wilson of Ammo-One, who helped develop this extreme wildcat, explains: "The speeds are so great we had to use a custom 3-groove, polygonal-rifling 1:20″-twist barrel to keep the bullets from disintegrating on launch. The polygonal land/groove geometry reduces bullet engraving, which also helps keep the bullets in one piece. Also we must use solids — regular jacketed bullets can't handle these speeds"."
It would be worth a phone call to find out where he got that barrel. I can't find anyone who makes true polygonal rifling (as in HK); just Boots' 5R type.
I suspect the HK type rifling will help keep the bullet together.
The problem with those little light bullets is that hey lose speed and energy quickly.
