35 whelen

Another 35 Whelen question. I have a barrel in process. What are people liking for a hunting bullet in the 225 to 250 grain range for black bear?
Really haven't seen a bad bullet in that range for the .35 Whelen. The 250 core loct works great in its range.

Some improvement in bullets over the years. Today, I'd use one of the Hammer mono's

I shoot 200 grain hammer bullets....2995 fps. They kill deer amazing. My farthest shot is about 270 yds. It went out the othe side. My son shot a 16 point last year with a 200 grain interlock. His shot at 300 went out the other side. Dropped like a prom dress. His 35 whelen runs around 2800 fps. My other son shoots the 200 ftx. It also drops every deer at 2800 fps. The last guy in our group shoots superformance factory 35 whelen with 200 grain interlocks. 3050 fps with my Garmin. It blows up the deer with 2 to 3 inch holes, in and out. I'm going to load up different rounds for him so he doesn't put such big holes in them. We shoot a ton of whelen rounds. I'd use the 200 hammer for everything including elk....no problem.

Black bear, at least here in NW MT, are not difficult to bring down. We have used 308, 260, and 30-06 with quality bullets. I have a 35W in a pump 7600 that I use for particular big black bear in thick terrain that puts them down with authority. 225 SGK and CFE223 is the ticket. Never had a bear take a step.
