I second Turp's suggestion to apply the mount money to a second thermal of some kind to be used as a scanner. If you are calling, nothing goes as planned. Sitting in 300 acre field and expecting to have lots of time only to be surprised by a flank attack down winding the call. Dogs at 30 yards won't give much time to get the thermal mounted and ready for action under the excitement. Good enough scanners can be had for $1000 or less. Your looking at mounts that are a compromise for 1/2 that. Also, pairing the unit to a phone and using the gun on a tripod mount works surprisingly well as an interim solution. (Separate scanner rules.)

I have had zero problems getting back within 1" at 100 with this type of mount - tools required.
That's the whole catch. I paid a pretty good dollar for a QD mount so I sent this one back. Just want what I paid for. Customer service was very good. Sent me a shipping label as soon as it was scanned at the post office. They started to send my replacement. a special thanks to Steve at Midwest Gun Works!
American Defense Mfg. Ad-Recon 30mm mount , has worked well for me so far.

It's going to be fun with a thermal. I just got my third thermal due to needing one with longer range capabilities for target ID and shooting. It is an Armasight Contractor 640 3-12 and comes with a KDG (Kinetic development Group) SIDELOK QD mount that they swear will hold zero. I haven't tested it for holding zero yet but it sure is EZ on and EZ off.

My 2nd one is a Hogster 35 that came with a QD mount, but I don't know what it is. It works good also.
Since getting the new one I have been using the Hogster for scanning. It is a 2X base mag and works good for that.
My third is a Sig Echo that is pretty old, low resolution, and 1X base. Before getting the Armasight, this one was my scanner. It is mounted on an old plastic Crosman pellet pistol frame.
Of course, the really good QD mounts are expensive. Having done this night hunting stuff for years, I don't recommend that you take your "shooter" thermal sight off and on to use for a scanner. I would recommend that you get another thermal with 1X or 2X base mag, that is light and handy, for use as your scanner. Might be a good place for a used thermal. If you take it on and off, you will always have that question in the back of your mind about whether it is still zeroed.

For shorter range stuff, both of my sons prefer to use a thermal for scanning, and a strong green hunting flashlight mounted on a regular scope (preferaby with illuminated reticle), or a red dot, for shooting. I have my 300 blk set up with a 1-6 lpvo w/ illum reticle for the close in critters.
