Old thread, but I shot my bull this year with my bone stock Rem 700, 35 Whelen. An old BDL from the early 80's. Picked the rifle up at a pawn shop about 7 years ago for a song......and I sang it. ; ) Rifle shoots waaaaay better than it should with about any load I put through it. Anyway, I was torn on what to pack in this year, but my buddies convinced me to go classic. Glad I did. 35 Whelen performed as advertised. 250 gr hornady SP cup and core bullet cruising along at 2600 MV. Don't ask the load, it's snappy. 550 yards was my absolute max range and I hit him at 554 yds. We had shots further out earlier on but they worked their way closer to us after my shooting partner let loose a 7 WSM at 900 and missed low. Anyway, it was another great hunting year.
