338 ULTRA MAG & 225gr. BARNES RESULTS

I have been doing some load development for my recently built LRH rifle.
Rem. 700 with custom made extended magazine.
30 inch Broughton tube 1:9.3 twist with Muscle brake Gunsmithed by Jim See.
6x-24x 50 Burris black Diamond 4 Signature rings on EGW 20 moa rail
Joel Russo carved Ironwood stock Devcon bedded and finished by ME

I tried 250 gr NAB's with not very good results.
So I thought I would try the Barnes 225 TTSX because all the reviews I read about them were good.
All testing was done at 300yds.
First time out I loaded 3 of each wt. to see how they shot.
This was my best group. 86.5gr 4350 fed mag primer at 3300fps. Seated .050 off the lands.
First two shots were good but I was trying to squeeze off the 3rd one really slow and the guy next to me let one fly with his Garand and I jerked it, so I decided to come back and test more.

These are from a week later ( this past sunday )
The 86.3 shot good but the 86.5 made the bolt a little harded to open so I only shot 2 rounds, it was over 95* out in the shade.
So now I will load some more and try to test at 500 or 600 yds.
Barnes 225gr TTSX is the answer to my accuracy goals.

Seems like everytime I get 2 touching I get a little nervous to put the 3rd one right in there.

GREAT shooting.

I have also had good success for my 338 rum with the Barnes 225 ttsx bullets - .04 off the lands. I load 94 grains of H-1000, CCI 250 mag primers and Remington brass. My best 5 shot group at 100yds was right around .27. I have not had the opportunity to shoot any further yet.

Looks like you found what she likes!! I hate shooting 3 shot groups, I turn my scope way down and shoot against a dark back ground so I can't see the first two and pull it

I'd have a serious case of the giggles and evil thought toward elk if I was shooting a 338 like that!

I also got to do some testing with some H 4831 SC like you suggested.
Same Barnes bullets loaded .050 off the lands just like before.
Did my testing at 300yds and best group was 90grs. I had some loaded with more powder than that but it was getting hotter and the mirage was making the orange dots dance. I didn't bring the chrono with me this time but I have loaded up some more for further testing and will clock them then.

now that's slammin em in there! very impressive. i hope they do as well at extended ranges. you obviously can bed a gun correctly. i too had good results with the 225ttsx bullets. not as good as yours though.

UPDATE
I finally got to get out when the temps aren't in the 90's to 100's. I loaded some up with H4831 SC and shot some 3 shot groups for my upcoming mule deer hunt that is in a week with some very GOOD results. I also installed my Canjar set trigger from my Rem 700 in 7m/m 300 Wby mag. So far 92 grs. is grouping the best by far. Now I just have to load up some more and shoot some at 500yds with 300yds being my zero. They averaged 3217 fps.

Can somebody make me up a drop table for this load with my zero being 300 yds. What other info do you need?

Very nice group! I am working up a load using 91 grain of Retumbo that shoots 1/2'' at 100yds. still going to work up and see if I can shrink it down. I started at 84.5 and that groups well at 3/8" but it was only 2718 fps.

I currently use 97.5 of H-1000 now for hunting with a 250 SMK that is about 3/4" It works great on deer and Elk size animals.
