338 Rum and Alaska Brown Bear !

I'm still not sure why I sold my 338 RUM. It was a Rem 700 BDL that I had ported like an integral muzzle brake, but with no holes on the bottom. I had it Duracoated and I bedded it into a McMillan stock. That thing would shoot 225 gr Accubonds into 1/2" or less at 100 yards. I killed one Colorado bull elk, a couple of Colorado coyotes, and several whitetail deer with it. Recoil was not unpleasant at all, and it absolutely hammered everything I pointed it at. I do have an 8mm Rem Mag that acts as a capable surrogate, but I still miss the RUM.

I have a Remington 700 VSSF .338 RUM that Darryl Holland did some work on years ago. I developed a load for it using Sierra Game King 250 gr. bullets and H-1000 at 96.7gr., here's the rifle and the 100 yd. target.

Ironically, my back up rifle for my bear hunt this weekend is a loaded with 250 LRXs. I thought they wrote be adequate...

That's a dandy bear! Nice mature boar, good fur, and ivory color front claws. Ivory claws often indicates an older bear. Good shot placement 👍

Any time the sun is shining on that part of the Island, it's a great day to be hunting spring bear. Congratulations!

It was Double Lung !
I hear ya ...I'm just Surprized it went down in one shot because most of the Videos I have watched ...they just keep hammering the Bear with Rounds !

I understand all about a wounded Bear to deal with , those teeth are not very forgiving! 😎😎

I believe in the 338 Rum ! Lots of downed critters in my Lifetime!

Rum Man
