Yep, they do state that minor fitting may be required. I could also try and work down the bottom metal too. Like I said, I'm just going to put it aside and for awhile and mull it around in my mind. Sometimes its best to think about things instead of just jumping right into them.

The OEM plastic piece fits into the new stock perfectly. So I'm not sure if it is the stock that is out of spec. It is a close fit though.

Just curious if you have a aftermarket trigger in it ? Mine has a Timney. And the aftermarket guard gave the bottom of the trigger a little more room for travel. Just something else to think on.

Still have the original OEM Remington trigger in it but, that is an item I may change in the future. So that's a good point.

Just sharing some pictures. Sometimes it is difficult to capture things in a picture. I wanted to show how short this rifle was. Maybe I should put a full-size rifle beside it.

I have a new to me .308 Winchester with a short 18" barrel. A Remington Mohawk 600. I don't have any experience loading for it. I will be using it for whitetails at ranges probably not exceeding 200 yards. Most likely, 100 yards would be the maximum range. I've been thinking of starting with 165 grain bullets either from Sierra or Nosler. Not sure on the powder choice yet. Can you give me some feedback? Just looking for a starting place. Any suggestions on bullet and powder choices?

I have a 308 with a 20" barrel . Found a good load with 4064. That powder is not available right now through the usual vendors. I'm going to work on a load with Varget when I get time . Wish I had started with it .

You really don't need a 165 for short distances.
I run 150's with IMR3031. You'll gain some velocity, and with a short barrel, that's a plus. I typically run faster powders
in short barrels. IMR3031 likes to be pushed near the upper limits, not necessarily at max, but in the upper end. Work up in .5 grain increments. Btw, 125 grain Nosler BT's and Sierra 125 grainers with 3031 also work very well. IMR3031 is also a pretty easy powder to find on the shelf.
