Not sure where you been for 40 years but electronic muffs not only protect your hearing thru nanosecond switching, but they are like bionic ears that increase your hear so you can hear ppl whisper 50 yards away. Then I can't hear the deer
I've got a 223, I've worked up some 67gr power points. Put a rifle scope on it. It is sweetUnderstand and that's why I'm making a suggestion on possible caliber change. I'd def running a light bullet in the 308 to tame the recoil. Deer aren't hard to kill at those ranges. Me, I'd be all over a 6mm or even a 223. I chose the 6mm for a touch more umph at long range for wolves, but I am also looking at 700-800 yards are reasonable distances with the pistol.

Put a break on the gun, buy electronic muffs and hunt.
I don't care what caliber centerfire pistol (rifle cartridge for hunting) you're a fool if you're NOT wearing heading protection. Muzzle brake or not, it WILL damage your hearing. I don't care if it's a .223 or 45-70 it's too loud. The .308 can easily be downloaded for recoil, and put a brake on for recoil. As for saying you won't be able to hear the deer. You don't have to wear them the whole time you're hunting, it's simple enough to wear a set of plugs around your neck, or a set of muffs on your head then slide em down. I CAN speak from experience so I'm not guessing here. I've got a .243, 7-08 and a .308 handgun. They're all equally loud.
I've been right here, drawing a little check and being as thrifty as I can be. I could sell primers on go. /\ /\ This /\ /\If you are handloading, just reduce the load, use 125-130gr bullets, etc. I use a 130 TTSX in my 308, and it works very well for the shorter ranges. Also, I have used the 125 NAB in reduced 308 and 30-30AI handgun loads. Also, you can use a 150 RN 30-30 bullet or a 150 Ballistic Tip with a reduced velocity load for softer recoil. There are several ways to reduce the recoil of a heavy kicking handgun and still be very effective on deer size game.

I've loaded Nosler 125 Ballistic Tip running 2800ish in 308 for my young son years back. . Nice and mild and will plant a whitetail. We've had complete pass through at that speed!
Actually...We never outgrew it!! Still keep some loaded and ready today.
Oh... The bullet path follows Burris Ballistic Plex reticle (which is what is still on it) to the T.

So have I... They were inexpensive and everywhere then Covid and election took em.I tried to find some and not even looking at gb
I'm in the works of trading the 308 for a 243 with break, so I will be looking at the walker game earsSo have I... They were inexpensive and everywhere then Covid and election took em.
I actually emailed Nosler CS and asked when they will become available again.
They replied, "Sometime in late summer. Definitely in time for hunting season."
So... hopefully true.
You can have great hearing protection and hearing enhancement at the same time,Then I can't hear the deer
I also use these. You do`nt even know you have them in.I use the Walker ear enhancement ear pieces that fit in my ear and block out gunshots. They let me hear the deer and protect my hearing.
Why don't you try those?
