X2I'd drop another 30 grains of bullet weight and try the HHT line. You will have both velocity and accuracy.
Not a short barrel but this is my load for my Browning A-bolt IMR4831 62.0gr Lehigh Defense Controlled Chaos 175gr 2.869 COALI've got a short barrel (16.5") Scout Rifle in 300 WSM I loaded with H4350.
I maxed out on velocity and case capacity without reaching any pressure signs.
Need a faster powder?
Thoughts, suggestions?
Thanks, Dave.
I appreciate the input & conversation on the subject.
This rifle happens to be a Factory built Ruger Frontier. I didn't whack 10" of barrel off one. It's kind of an oddball but something unique to play with that fits a niche in my hunting rifle lineup.
In addition to "Gun Love", Shooting & Hunting, I really enjoy the work of developing loads that achieve an optimum combination of accuracy & performance in my rifles. That's all my original post is about.
As is, terminal performance will be more than adequate, and I'm happy with the consistent sub-0.5 moa it's shooting.
If I come up with any noteworthy results from my work, I'll be sure to share with the group.
Dave-
ADG Brass and 67.5gr H4350 in my rifle is getting 2930fps with the 165 Power Hammer and 2900 with the 165 Barnes TSX. Running about .6 moa with the Hammer, and a little tighter with the Barnes. What kind of speeds are you getting? I've had half a mind to get one at 12.5" and make an SBR out of it but there is practically zero short barrel data out there so I have no idea how much velocity loss to expect.
