300 win mag vs 7mm rm

"Anything"? Not true. Can't shoot "MAN" bullets (200gn or heavier), LOL, :)

They don't make 200+ gn bullets for the 7mm but IF they did I believe the recoil between the two rifles, set up exactly the same, would not be discernible.

You're right Johnny, and in reality, what is the REAL difference between a 7mm rem with 180gr and a 300 mag with 200gr bullets.....not much. Certainly not enough to agonize over.

Between the two, just get whichever caliber you prefer

Both are factory rifles
That's why I can't choose the twist.
The 2 have thread in the muzzle, for muzzle brake

I know that each rifle is different, but what speeds can I expect in each one with these bullets?

I have both and like them equally. They both shoot great , easy to load for and very deadly on elk .

In my opinion it's a simple question of what bullet do you want to use ? 180's or 215s? They both work great if you place them correctly.

I used to hunt with a 300winmag and now I hunt with a 7mm remmag. The 300 with 180gn slugs is a much better killer of elk than the 7mm with a 160gn slug travelling faster.

The 300 knocked the elk off their feet every time. The 7mm didn't knock them down and the elk usually traveled a short distance before expiring.

Just my experience.

it means that with less recoil you dont feel like you dont have to try harder to hold gun and you can feel more confident
Nope, you are just expressing your own infirmity and generalizing it onto others. If lighter recoil made all more confident and shoot better then we'd all shoot "lesser" caliber/cartridges.
This ties into the whole "Magnum cartridges make people miss!" stuff I keep reading about. Ballistically superior performance is what should make a shooter more confident.

Hi guys.
What caliber would you choose for long distance hunting?
-The 300 wm is with 26 "barrel and 1:10 twist. thinking of using 210-215gr bullets
-7mm rm, 26 barrel and 1: 8 twist. thinking 180gr bullets.

What speed can I expect from these calibers with these bullets?

regards
Both should max out in the vicinity of 2925 fps ± 25 fps based on commonly available load data for those weight class bullets and a 26" barrel. I have a 24" 300WM, and had a 24" 7mm, and this is also in line with my experience reloading for those guns. There's no hard number, as each gun and reload is going to be unique. For all practical purposes though, they will be the same velocity.

The ballistic coefficients and sectional density are near enough identical at those bullet weights.

For target shooting, 7mm will recoil less and be a smidge cheaper to shoot if reloading. For hunting, the 300 WM will hit considerably harder (~15-20% more momentum and energy, 10% bigger hole).

7mm magnum by far. Those 180s will shoot flatter and retain better energy than a 300. A 300 is a powder guzzler and kicks like a mule too. If you want to make the argument and say, "I use a muzzle brake on my 300" well not everybody wants to hear your cannon go off either. I like quieter guns. The 7 mag is cheaper to shoot too. And you can kill any game with a 7 mag in North America. Both guns are over bore. A 284 Winchester is about perfect IMO for a 7mm. Good luck.
