Has anyone used this bottom metal on a 280AI hunting rifle R700 build? If so, which magazine worked for you? AG Composites says their bottom metals are compatible with Magpul, MDT, and AI AICS magazines.

I have two rifles with AG M5 DBM bottom metal. One on a LA for 300 PRC and one SA on a 22 Creed. In the LA I run a Hawkins mag and in the SA I use American Rifle Co, Magpul and Terminus. On the LA, I have ONLY used the Hawkins mag (not for any specific reason, but because that's all I have). On the SA, I've used so many different mags I can't keep track. I've borrowed a wide variety of mags for matches, etc. and never ran into a problem. I can't comment on the 280AI specifically.

To be more specific I'm using R721 trued action. Interesting, did you order your 300 PRC inletted for CIP length magazines 3.850"? The LA Hawkins Hunter mag won't work with the AG Comp standard LA bottom metal which is cut for AICS 3.715" external length vs 3.770" internal for the Hawkins mag. Do you happen to know the external length of the LA Hawkins (I assume Hunter) magazine you are using? I'm wondering if I should have my AG stock cut to CIP length so can use the Hawkins 30-06\280AI Standard LA magazines? The AG Composites sales person on this forum does not want to go into more detail than compatible compatible with X brands. What I'm seeing with the brands listed as compatible is they are for AR or chassis style setups vs hunting with mags starting at 5 rnds and up.

Appreciate your response

Have you purchased the DBM yet? The AG BM comes in standard 3.715" or 3.85" (CIP), these are external mag dimensions. Just because it states CIP length, doesn't mean the magazine internal length is much longer. IE, MDT CIP length polymer mag for 30-06 is 3.630". This looks like MDT's only CIP length for that case. Standard MDT metal mag internals are listed at 3.4" and 3.6"

For a 280AI, figure out your max length you want to load to (lands???) and then go from there.

Yes I ordered it with standard long AICS 3.715" external just a few days ago so I believe I can change it if needed since AG is backed up. I planning on having the chamber cut so that 175EH seated with the start of boatail at the shoulder\neck junction with ~ .020" jump to start (Berger and several on this forum say the hybrids like to jump between .020-.040). That will put my coal at 3.500 +\- .005 which should be OK for standard AICS and hence why I ordered it. However, I assumed I could get a 3-4 rnd lightweight polymer magazine that would work and all I've been able to find are 5rnd metal AICS magazines. So it looks like I'll need to change my order to CIP inletting and bottom metal in order to utilize that MDT 3 rnd polymer mag.

At 3.630" external length I shouldn't see any issues with the feed ramp with the R700\21 receiver I would imagine. Thoughts?
I've got an email into AG on this topic too so will see what they have to say.

To be honest, I don't recall how I wound up with what I have. Sorry I can't be more help. I'd suggest calling AG and asking them.
