I have both the 212 and 220 gr. but have not shot them yet. I loaded a dummy round with .001" neck tension for the 212's to determine where the ogive hits the jams and didn't like how far the bullet was seated in the case. I did the same with the Berger 215 HT and with the hybrid ogive it gave me much better seating placement and I was able to hit the velocities I wanted. With an 8 twist 26" lite bull barrel H1000 produced a .143 3 shot grp @ avg vel 2809. VV570 was very consistent across the 6 charge weights I used for OCW testing shooting 5 out of 6 sub MOA with the best @ .733 avg vel 2,905 SD 6.17. The super accurate node with the H1000 is small and the SD is 11.1 so I'm thinking it makes sense to further optimize the VV570. I like the SD and velocity better and should be able to get it under .5 MOA. The only downside is VV570 is known to be a barrel burner but not going to worry about replacing the barrel at some point.Has anyone with a 300 Win Mag had a chance to shoot the ELD-X bullets yet? I curious how they are grouping and what kind of speed you are seeing with them so far?
Any load data would be appreciated.
Stadoc - is that the 190 impact? I've been thinking about giving them a tryI just started loading for my 300wm. It shot factory sig 190 otm great so iloaded190gr speer with 77.5 of h1000 and it's a tac driver. I have never actually chrono my rounds. A guy at my range let me use his to chrono a 5 shot string and I was floored. My group at 100 was .4. Not bad for a mediocre shooting old man.
Like me it sounds like you might be shooting a Browning X-bolt one of the few factory 300WM that offer an 8 twist barrel. Are you shooting SAAMI max COAL for that load. I have some 212's and am curious especially if you are shooting a Browning. In my rifle this bullet finds the jams @ 3.524" COAL. Didn't realize I had responded to an old thread... some threads never die I guess. Will try this again. I loaded some 212 ELDX for upcoming hunt. Got all my data from Hornada. Loaded 3 different powders at varies weights and went and shot them. One of the loads was 72 gr of H4831 and it shot so well that I just quit and loaded them. Will not saw it is half moa but most holes touch at 100 yards. Shooting 26 in barrel 1-8 twist at 2870 fps.
I'm getting pretty close now. It looks like 79 Gr of H1000 and 74 gr of RL-26 are both accurate and give me 2960+ fps.
It was really windy at the range on Friday so I just decided to shoot a few rounds and try to get close to zeroing.
The H1000 seems to be a bit more accurate but it was really hard to tell. I need a more solid rear rest as the Caldwell bag doesn't cut it at all.
At 200 yards 78.75 and 79 gr of H1000 are both very accurate just slightly different impact on the target.
Been using the (H-1000) @ 79.5 gr with 180 gr SPBT years and killed more than my share of Elk! From Aprox 150 yds out to again, Aprox 800+/- yds. All have Dropped where they were shot! Within a short step or so!See I tried H1000 with the ELDX 200gr and my gun didn't like them, granted I was only shooting 100yrds and I feel a 200yrd zero would've been more indicative of how the rounds really would fly out at distance.
I may revisit H1000 here shortly with the 178gr ELDM see how it likes it.
Yes Speer impact 190, very accurate and I honestly didn't do much tinkering with bullet seating and such. Pretty much just followed the book specs and it's super accurateStadoc - is that the 190 impact? I've been thinking about giving them a try
That's impressive velocity I assume you're close to sea level what barrel length? How does your velocity compare to the book velocity? I have an 8 twist 26"
Have to look at the book again will look at it when I get homeThat's impressive velocity I assume you're close to sea level what barrel length? How does your velocity compare to the book velocity? I have an 8 twist 26"
