300 Win Mag ELD-X load testing?

I loaded up some 200grn this morning with IMR 7977. If I ever get a break in the weather I'll see if I can't find a decent load with this powder. I couldn't find any reference data so I started with 71 grains and stopped at 76. See what happens.

Tagging also. I have some 200gr eldx and 3-4 lbs. of Retumbo. Any information would be appreciated.

I was able to get out and do a little shooting today with the 220gr ELDX and my 300winmag. I used 2 different powders. H4350 and IMR7828SSC. My best with the H4350 came in at 64.5grs with a velocity average of 2727fps. and sub MOA grouping. My best with the 7828 came with 70.5grs and an average velocity of 2867fps and a grouping of 1.25". I'm hoping that by playing with the seating I can get the last one to tighten up. All this was shot at 100 yards.

Waiting to pick up a box of 200s next time I make a Cabelas run. I'm going to try IMR 7828ssc and IMR 7977 in my Remington 700 Long Range with 26" barrel. I have ran 208 gr A-MAXs in it with great accuracy and velocity with 74gr of 7828 and no pressure. Going to start with the same load with the 200gr ELDs. I am making 2950fps with the 208s and shooting for 3000fps with the 200s.

I finally got to playing around with these again in my 300 WSM since I wasn't happy with the results last time. I seated the bullet a little deeper and matched Hornady's OAL of 2.855" since my 2.86" OAL showed promise with all the shots at the same vertical height. Well, this is the magic load in my rifle. A nice 3 shot clover leaf. RL-17 62.8 gr, Nosler Brass, WLRM primer and 2.855" COAL. Haven't put it over the chrono yet, but according to Hornady it's in the 2950 fps range

Well I got a chance to test the 220gr with retumbo. I was disappointed that my middle of the road 75gr load was a full case compressed load. The accuracy was poor about 2" 5 shot group. The eldx 220 grain bullet has such a long bearing surface and a realatively short ogive that I believe Hornady intended it to be seated deep into the case effectively killing case capacity. I didn't bother trying any other loads because of the case capacity issue. I'm switching to a faster powder (h1000.) hopefully it will have better results.

75.5 gr h1000 seems to be a magic charge weight for me. It shoots well in several different rifles with different weight bullets.

My 300 likes 78.6 grains with HVLD 190's and 77.2 grains with the 210's. Both loads with BR2 primers at .020" off the lands in RWS brass.
I get 3018 fps with the 190's and 2866 fps with a Bartlein 11.25 twist 24" barrel.

I hope to find a 200 grain load at about 2930 gun)fps.:D

I found 76.5 grains H1000 with the 200 grain to shoot a little over 2900 out of my gun and was the most accurate load I tried. 77 actually slightly slowed down and wasn't as accurate.

WLRM primers, Winchester brass, 3.425" coal. I use the mag box.
26" bartlein barrel 10 twist.

I have some 200 gr ELD-X loaded finally for my 300 Win Mag and hope to get out this weekend.
I have a new semi custom trued Rem 700 with a 26" Bartlein #3 5R bbl 1-10 twist with a match grade reamer.

The gun was shot by my gunsmith in initial testing with the 212 gr ELD-X. It was shooting 2891 fps with Nosler Brass and CCI250 primers and 75.5 gr of H1000 with a C.O.A.L of 3.580"

I'm hoping the 200 gr ELD-X will be a bit faster. I'm going to be using Win Brass and Fed 215M primers with H1000 with the 200 gr ELD-X so I will have a report soon. I have some RL 22 I'm going to try if I don't get the speed/accuracy I'm looking for with the H1000.
