300 PRC

So I too am curious on the 300prc 212 ELD-X vs ELD-M. I am headed to Colorado in a few weeks and my Browning likes the 225 ELD-M better than the 212 ELD-X. Would I be safe to use the M on Elk or should I stick with the X? Or should I abort the whole ELD mission and go for another brand/type of bullet?
I will not be hunting any game with the 212 ELDX's. They are accurate but not a killing bullet, IMO. I would be curious to see how you would do on elk with a 225. I'm not sure X or M. I am trying to develop a reload with different bullets but work has kept my range time way down this year.

Eld M will fail without a bone hit. We did it and was not a good day. Lost the elk. Best elk round I've ever used as a 230 target hybrid from Berger

ELDMs are excellent on deer regardless where they are hit. Elk, I cannot say but James sounds like he has that experience covered. It's all I use on deer out to and beyond 800.

100 percent we kill about 40 deer each year on our property up to 1075 yards with the Eldm are excellent for mule deer size animals and below

You don't happen to mean WITH a bone hit do you? Cuz that's what I'd have been more worried about. That they'd blow up too much on an elk or moose shoulder. Not that they'd fail to expand, ever. I've seen how violently they expand on something as comparitively non-resisting as a pumpkin (not a water filled one, just a pumpkin - they are violent as all get out)

The 225 eld m in particular is a different animal…compare the plastic tips of the 208 eld m and the 225…the 225 is much larger, the hollow point it's covering is huge!

Sierra TMK, at least the 195 grain, is even more massive but I have no experience with that one

They lack deep penetration for elk. Eldm. But are great on smaller animals like deer.
Okay that makes more sense! When you said they'd fail without a bone hit I thought maybe you meant they'd just FMJ through with an ice pick wound and i just couldn't see that happening.

What eld m in particular did you have these disappointing results with? Caliber and weight?
