300 PRC load info

Shot some RL26 loads this morning.
77.4, 77.7, 78 with 215 HYB and CCI250 primer.

623 yards all loads shot .3-.5 MOA.

78 had about 1" of vertical for 3 shots so I fired the last two over the magnetospeed.
2972 and 2969

Are you seeing any difference between the H1000 vs r26. Pros or cons between the two.

I'm probably 2-3 month out before I start load work up with my 300 prc.

I don't see any cons either way as long as you have rl26.
I've tested it in several cartridges for temp stability and have found it as stable as hodgdon extreme powders. But...I have not tested it in the 300 Prc for stability yet.

I don't think it will yield any substantial velocity or accuracy over H1000.

I just tested some rl26 with 212 eldx billets that I'll show next.

For anyone interested in 212 ELDX loads.

623 yards wind was about 5-10 mph at 3:00 for the first target, about 4:00 for the second target and about 5:30 for the last.

RL26, CCI 250, 212 ELDX at .030 jump.

From left to right 77.2, 77.5, 77.8
Fist shot at 77.2 was just off the left edge of paper on the backer board.

77.2 didn't chrono
77.5 was 2,986 avg, 16 ES
77.8 was 2,990 avg, 10 ES

I dialed 9.25 MOA from my zero with the 215 hybrid. I'll need to take out .75 MOA next time.

There is a lower node around 76 gr that should be good for 2900 FPS I might explore later.

RL26 is yielding the best velocities for this round. It will give you more velocity over H1000 and Retumbo from all our testing. Some guys are using 570 powder, but so far CCI 250 primers with RL26 had been the best

Thanks,
I've got all the powder needed. Thinking I'm going to shoot similar load work up that you have done in the reloader 26.
Also going to try some n570 but don't have any experience on it. Any way thanks for all the updates. When I get started I'll post all my findings.

Could you tell us what your max charge was with each powder and bullets tested?
I've been to 79 gr with rl26 and 80 with H1000 using 215 bergers and haven't seen any pressure signs. Both of those loads were over 3000 FPS. I don't want to trash my brass so I haven't gone any higher.

Thanks

Personally I dont care about velocity, 3 times I have tested RL26 against H1000 and 1000 was the winner for accuracy.
But I have not tested it in a 300 PRC.

Remember, N570 is way slower than RL26, so you'll likely need to just about fill the case to get up to velocity, but you'll have a nice tight powder column.

To me velocity and accuracy is what I am looking for. So if I don't have both i'm not interested. Here are the pics of my Brother's 300 PRC and mine. First pic is of RL26 out of my brothers gun, Second is H1000 and then RL26 out of mine. We are getting the same accuracy with more velocity using R26

Well I got out the last couple of days and shot my 300 PRC with factory 225gr ELD-M, 2860fps avg out of a 26" barrel,
2 shots at 100 same hole
1 shot at 500 on the steel plate to verify drop and MOA adjustment and was bang on,
1 shot at 650 and the same on the steel plate
Move out to 820 yards and shoot a 2.5" 3 shot group, Ive never shot past 300 yards as that's all our range allows, all's I can say is wow the 300 PRC rocks.

Nice thing is I was out hunting with the gunsmith that built the rifle when we took an afternoon off to to do some long range shooting, he was impressed as well.

@Weatherby Fan ,

That Berger group with 76 of RL26 is super nice. Did you move up from there. What length are you loading at? I plan on shooting Berger out of mine. Thanks

With the Berger 210 VLD Hunters they are touching the lands at 2.619" so I loaded them at 2.6".
I just loaded some more up at 76.2grs of R26 in my new 300 PRC, I'll hit the range tomorrow.
