.300 Norma magnum for hunting??

When I get a Desert Tech (DTA) rifle I think one of the two calibers I order will be .300 Norma mag. due to its ballistic advantages over the .300 Win. mag.

I will also get a barrel, bolt and magazine in 6.5 Creedmoor as I already nave a Ruger American Predator in that cartridge. I'll then sell the Ruger. That cartridge means I can use the same bolt for .308 if I ever feel the need to get yet another barrel.

I could, instead of the 6.5 Creedmoor, get the 6.5/284 mag. for the ultimate reach without too much recoil and barrel burning. Decisions, decisions.

Gre-Tan built 300 Norma Bat HR action 20" Bartlein @ 1:10 barrel, Barnes 200 grain LRX , Couldn't be happier. Taken on Sept 12 @6pm in the Brooks Range. 388 yards at 30deg. slope.

The 300 norma is an awesome hunting round combined with a 230 grain berger your talking bad medicine for critters.

I had a snowy mtn rifles 300 norma for awhile and it was super accurate and awesome to shoot. Unfortunately a fella going through our shooting class fell in love with it and made me an offer I couldn't refuse:D I really think that for hunting it is an awesome choice.
There is a great article on the round here http://www.accuracy1stdg.com/content/docs/Binder7.pdf

GREAT POST 406

I have that Sniper mag and it is a great read. True the Norma case is more efficient and a better over all round than my 300wm but availability and price are a major difference between the two.
I can not even remeber the last time I saw a box of 300 Norma Mag ammo.... But if your talking about the proformance of the round... That article speaks for it's self.

The 300 win is one of my all time favorites for sure...and if u dont reload the 300 norma isn't for you I think there is only one supplier of factory rounds at this time.
However after seeing all the critters crash this year I'd buy a second one in a second.

Perhaps this is the .30 caliber cartridge that will gradually replace the .300 Win mag. But maybe not in our lifetime!

I think it's a better choice than the .300 RUM. (OK RUM fans, don't get upset. Jus' sayin'.)
