.300 Norma magnum for hunting??

I shot several whitetails with the 300NM and 208Amax @3100fps



currently trying 230OTM's with 88gr-RL33 for a bit over 2900fps in a 26" 10.92tw and pressure never showed up till 3060fps!



am i concerned they are NOT a "hunting bullet"? Hardly!

Everyone shooting the 300 NM that's using RL33 has been really happy. Jeff has a thread going about the lethality of the berger 215's. Needless to say, I'm not worried about shooting an animal with them. A 215gr bullet w/ a bc of .697 moving along at 3050-3100fps??? What's not to like!?

I stand corrected regarding use of a 230 gr. Berger Tactical hybrid for target only.

If you hunters who have used have it had success on big game then it's also a hunting bullet and I like that.

Regarding using it for competition, after reading your comments I am itching to have my HS Precision .300 Win mag re-chambered for .300 Norma mag. I'm sure it would give me more room for vertical error with its better trajectory and especially more room for windage error with its increased velocity.

NOTE* I stated in error that General Dynamics was using the .300 Norma mag for its new medium machine gun but it's actually using the .338 Norma mag. It's a somewhat shorter round than the .338 Lapua mag., thus it functions better in a machine gun.

I found a (rare) lefty AX long action chassis from Mile High I will be building a 300NM on. Should be done by Oct-Nov. Can't wait to see what I can do with this round!

Contemplating taking the 300NM for Elk this fall rather than the 8mm RM because of this thread and others. I've shot the 230's out to 2200m

Does the fiberglass stock have an aluminum bedding insert like HS Precision uses?

It is a Manners composite stock the action has been pillar bedded in the stock

Got to run the ole 300 out to 1475 today really did well hurls the 230 bergers down range with some juice for sure. Here are a couple pics of her in the field...quickly becoming a favorite of mine. In the 3's at 100 and a few more trips out to verify drops and she is going to be really deadly.

Really nice build - they always look better in their native habitat! What dies are you using, Forster? I've been looking for a 300NM neck die. I've heard Redding used to make one.

Forrester yep...never seen a redding set but I hear they exist. Lol
Right now it appears any dies are good dies they are hard to come by.

Any updates on this bad boy!? Velocity with 230's? I found a set of Forster dies and 16lbs of RL33 so I'm gtg as soon as my rifle gets finished!

Well let's just say it keeps getting better switched over to retumbo and finally got my suppressor can't beat it with a stick shot several sub 1.5 inch groups tonight at 305 yards

NICE! 1.5 inches @ 305 is awesome accuracy. That might put an elk down ;-)
