300 Norma Improved/230 Berger and Africa

In my ignorant predjudice I vote Hammer

Why on earth would you ever shoot a mono unless you live in a crazy state like california that requires it? There is no advantage. I know people on here drink the hammer coolaid, but at the end of the day there is nothing special about them other than the owners are a paid sponsor of the site. If you want a tougher bullet than a berger, why not an Aframe or an accubond or a partition?

Maybe you didn't know it, but all you mentioned have lead in them. No thanks!

I like the concept of Hammer. Haven't tried any of them. For others listed, great bullets but think Partition is only one over 200 gr but BC isn't impressive. I know high BC isn't important for Africa but would prefer to find a single load and leave it. Like the Berger's but have read PH not wanting them in camp so was trying to get some feedback.

Spike elk at 553 yards/mv 3120'. Entered mid front of neck, blew out 2-3 vertebrae and went half way through the top of the shoulder. Recovered 74 grains of bullet.

elkaholic,

Congrats on the success.

That means there is about 150 grains of lead somewhere in that elk.
Yup, all in the neck that was tossed!
Ive never seen anyone eat meat around a wound channel, so Im not sure where the concern comes from? Im 72 and going strong!
I'm not trying to be a wise guy, but help me understand if Im missing something?
