300 Big Dog is done!

What powder are you focusing on for the 199's? Got a 300 Norma Improved being built right now and plan to run the 199's as well. I have N570, but curious about a possible faster powder. 560 or 565?

The only powder tried so far is n570.

Give US869 a try. I know it's not very temp insensitive, but it worked better than anything I tried. 50bmg was to bulky. Couldn't get enuff in it to peak it out.

Your case holds about the same as my 30-378 Weatherby. I had 2-3 round case life in mine and I gave up on hot rodded rounds. But when you are young it's fun!

I have cases that were on their 20th reload when I remodeled that rifle. Lapua brass. Accept no substitution

The first barrel was a kreiger 10 twist. It loves the 210s. The second was a lilja, it would not shoot the 210s, but the 190s fit great. 1st shot kills at 910 and 1035 yards in proved that. Mule deer and antelope. This was back before long range was main stream like it is today.

Hoping to get to the range with it this week. Robbed the 2 sets of rings on it for others and now have a set of Hawkins rings to try. Would really like to take it on our upcoming Montana hunt.

Time just keeps blazing by! I wound up pulling the scope off the Big Dog and putting it on a Hells Canyon 300 rum so I could have a packable weight rifle for our Montana trip last week. Now back to catching up in the shop before we go to New Mexico for elk.

My first 30-338 lap imp shot 210 Berger's at 3600 out of a 26" kreiger. I'm very interested in hearing how yours does with the 199 hammers

Is that so? Must be a fast barrel. My 300AX mustered 3400fps with 200's with a 26" barrel. For just over 5100ft lbs to your loads 6,000ft lbs

And my 34" 300Raptor is pushing 245's 3400fps for 6200ft lbs burning 127gr of powder to do it

That was many moons and 3 barrels ago on that action. Without goin to dig through my notes, working on memory, it was 119 grains of us869.

The second barrel was lilja and it didn't perform as well as the krieger.
