30 nosler load data

Sammi spec 30 nosler in a 26 inch 10 twist barrel.

I don't have the coal or cbto numbers in front of me but it was at .020 off the lands with 215Ms and 86.5 grains of H1k. The 215s were very close to this but again no numbers in front of me.

Both bullets would shoot in the .3s to 600 when I had my act together. Routinely .5 or or better to 600.

Btw- I'm a huge fan of the case as I feel it performs to near rum capacity but behaves like a wm. Nosler really screwed the pooch with the short throat and proprietary nature of the round. It should have caught on but many people never truly understood it's ability plus its was outshined by the hype of the 26 nosler, imo.

As usual, hornady got it right with the PRC in regards to throat and marketing. Plus there's a definite difference between the 6.5, 7 and 300.

I'm now building a 24 inch 8 twist 30-28 throated for 245s. I can't wait to get ahold that this one and run a ladder test. My smith has all components except for the barrel which is in the rotation to be built soon.

I think the 30-28 nosler holds 4 more grains. I agree I love the 30 nosler very awesome case and believe nosler messed up on throat but I think they went more for hunting and easy of mag feeding where hornday went for long range shooting. The 30 nosler is a great accurate case easy to fine tune and I love there is a wide variety of powder for it that's works great.

Has anyone shot out a barrel yet? I have 300ish rds on one and maybe 400 on another
My understanding from searching forums is that 800/900 is the number of firings to start looking at throat erosion and crackling. I guess it's how many strings are put through? Several have noted that n570 gets hot quicker than h1000. I'm wondering on the n568? But as stated the 568 uses more powder?

I have not on the wm 30 nos or 300 rum but I just have a problem keeping a gun long enough for that issue to present itself 😀 I'm really hoping my current 7 saum and 30-28 change that trend. It's getting too expensive to change things every couple of years... 😉

There's not much out there on the 30 nosler but lots on the 26 and 7mm.

On the 300 rum I've read as little as 700 which to me is more in line with a 7stw or nos. I've read a lot say 1000-1100 with a few saying 14-1500.

I'd say it depends greatly on the type of powder used, charge weight, cleaning and how you treat it on the bench. It will also depend on your accuracy expectations. If you have a custom rig shooting in the .2s out to 600 and expect that you may see shorter barrel life where a guy happy with .7s at 600 will see 2-300 more rounds of barrel life.

I run H1k which is a little easier on barrels and baby my rigs. I'd be happy to see it maintain .5 to 600 to around 1400 rounds.
