30" 257 Weatherby - What can I expect.

A best friend has a 30", 12 Twist Hart.
Accuracy load with Sierra 100g Match Kings is 4000 fps, using around 71-72g of R#22 in PMC brass with Federal 215s and this is a rock chuck rifle.

85-87g is right at 4200, Nosler BT and Speer Hot Core.

I sold him the New Hart Barrel blank, and I had the Reamer ground with zero freebore. I also had the neck shortened .050 which is perfect for necking down the Winchester brand of .264 Win Mag and 7 Mag brass that forms a perfect double radus on every case with NONE lost.

I did the calculations that the Barnes TTSX 80g would stabilize in the 12 twists, and 4200 would not suck.

I had 4-6 barrels cut with this zero freebore reamer, and we hunted with them in 10 twists and X caliber 9 Tiwst.
The 25" barrels and 26" barrels are shooting the 100g at 3850 into a bug hole, 71-72g of R#22. 110g Nosler accubonds and the 115g Bergers are doing 3620 on a 26" and 3590 on a 25" barrel with 67-69g of R#22.

We have put together a total of 6 guns with the zero freebore configuration since 1990, everyone, no matter if the barrel was a Pac Nor, Lilja, Hart, Krieger, and lately, the X caliber brand of the barrel has shot tiny groups. Load development is just dumb butt simple and quick with a few rounds fired(35 or less) with R#22 for 100s, 110g, and 115g and R#19 for the light bullets with Fed 215s in all use.

I let a gunsmith borrow the reamer, and he ruined it. So, I ordered another reamer with .020 freebore.

On the 25" X caliber barrels on 700 actions with Boyd stocks, we added a Gentry muzzle break for a nephew who is recoil sensitive. He shot three bucks last year plus a few does, he just grins now. He says he sees the water vapor fly off of the deer and watch the deer fold up on every shot.

I am going to call Hammer bullets for use in my Krieger 30" 12T barrel blank and see if anything they have will stabilize and speeds should be 4200+

Try the 75 grain hammer hunter. I can't see it not being stable. I've just finished creating a devastating load out of my measly 24 inch .257 wby vanguard with rl17 and cranking 4150 fps. 6 more inches of pipe would EASILY see it way over 4200. H380, h4350, and h4831 were also useful and easily over 4000 fps but rl17 won for max velocity before pressure and tightest es numbers. 7828 is entirely too slow. Superformance is an absolute no go for a few reasons.
