2900 Fps .308?

About the most you can expect from a 308 with a 168gr MK
is 2800ft/sec and this is very hot.

2650 to 2700 ft/sec is more reasonable .

My best and toughest load was 2650 from a 27 3/8" hart ss match
barrel

I could only get 3 to 4 loadings from the brass and only used it on
600 and 1000 yrd matches.

My best all around load was just above 2600 ft/sec.

I was considering this load,168 gr amax over 46 grs of IMR 4064,estimated at 2700 fps and reporte as very accurate, anyone tried it?Ive done a ton of research and i havnt seen anything near 2900 fps from a sporting rifle, just wanted to verify that,Thanx.

A good custom hand lapped SS barrel will normaly produce 50 to 60
more ft/sec velocity than a factory barrel. and with some of the new
powders you might get 2800 ft/sec.

I dont think the A Max will get you more velocity but it should shoot
well. But to reach the lands with the A MAX you may exceed the C.O.L
for the magazine.

Just shot the 168 gr amaxs over 48 gr of imr 4350,shot GREAT.The 50 gr loads shot just as well but its really hard to compress the loads so Im stickin with 48 gr's.Every group i shot was at or sub MOA at 100,shot them at 300 and 525,very impressive.

F-Class shooters are doing up to 2900fps with 190SMK

Using Lapua .308 brass, VN550 and Sierra 190SMK and a long throat. (3" OAL). So think about it, before the next time you'll laugh.

A couple fellas I know up this way are loading 175gr MK's to right around 2900fps out of their custom .308's using a Rock barrel, Nesieka(sp?) action and a very hot charge of Varget. Don't know all the specs, ie COL and chamber dimensions, but that is what they are getting.

From 190 to 155 you could gain something like 500 FPS, which would put him at 3400 FPS (which I still don't think he could reach) so I am still laughing.

Should have really stressed that they are loading pretty hot in a custom gun....wouldn't try it myself, I'm happy with the 2650 I get.

Yes, sure

Are you sure about these?
,,,,,,,,,,,,,

That's what some guys shoot for accuracy at 1000yards F-Class matches. If it wasn't accurate, they would be shooting a different load to make the holes in the paper.

.308W with 200/2800fps-210/2700fps

Apparently in a F-Class these loadings are not uncommon. Thought that a (OAL 3"+) and 30"-32" barrels may also have something to do with it.

I like velocity as much as the next guy but with all of the
different calibers that are available there is no need to load
over max loads.

If I want more velocity than a saami max load for a .308 win
then I would go to a 3006 or even a 300 mag.

There was a time when all of these options were not available
and guys like P O Ackley moved sholders and reduced taper
to gain powder capacity and up the velocity.

I have owned 1 rifle that was used for 1000yrd matchs that was
over loaded by 3 to 4 grains of 4831 and it was deadly BUT the
price I paid was not worth the problems I dealt with( blown primers,
hard bolt lift, very short brass life, bolt face erosion ,etc.

So be happy with what your 308 will do with out excessive pressures
and if you need more just go with a larger round.

308's are very competitive at a 1000yrds with a 168gr MK.

Velocity is like gas mileage there are claims and there are facts.

Dont over load, get a bigger gun.
