285 ELD-M vs cow elk

I'm also thinking the 147 over the 143 x. In my creed. Good to see they are working well.

I have way too many 143's. Will be putting them up for sale I think. Not that they are a bad bullet...I think they are a great long range bullet. 300 yards and closer they remind me of another bullet I will not use. I shoot some Whitetail in Nebraska that shots can be close. Generally head or neck shoot them.

147's with Rl26 and bare bullets gave me my best accuracy but at 3,180fps it did not blow my skirt up. Trying N570 now and it is doing okay. Running 3,220fps and accuracy is right at 1/2 moa @ 600 yards. These were new cases and not fireformed yet. Will have to see how they do now that they are fireformed.

Thought I would give update about 147 Eld M's. Hope I am not hijacking 285 thread.
Wanted to try N570 in little 6.5ss. initial result we're bout 1/2 moa @601 yards.
Went out this morning and shot with fireformed brass. (All prior test with new unfired brass).
Used my Labradar and velocity was 3186-3190fps. Not super fast for this chambering but a little concerned about barrel life with N570. Barrel is 30" Krieger, medium Palma, 1-8 Twist and Nitrided. Actually everything is Nitrited, action, bolt, and even muzzle brake.
This rifle has been shooting extremely well but with reloader 26.
Here is the end result with N570 this morning. 3 shot group at 601 yards.

Just a little hijack
good stuff though. I will say the 300 SS that Bigngreen made me is my most accurate rifle also.
I think I'll take your advise and be happy with the Edge and not go the next step up. I guess if I need to step up I'll go up in caliber haha

Thanks guys but all the stars aligned for this. Design/ builder, bullets and powder!
Those Sherman wildcats are pretty awesome cartridges. Don't tell Rich, his head might swell for an old guy!

Speaking of heads; I think you have a little lube on your primer!:D

I will be unleashing some of these 285s this weekend hoping to see how they do. Have not shot them out of this gun yet have shot 300 burgers but I'm taking these 285 and just putting them on top of my 300 load and playing with the depth we'll see what they like tomorrow should be about 3100 ft per second.

What are you shooting them in? That would be screaming!

Last weekend we ran 285's through 2 different LRKM's

Mine is running 3,140 fps, no pressure signs. Retumbo & 215 primers

Friend was running 3,260 fps with RL33 112 grains & CCI-250's. I think he was a little hot!

This is some great information guys! I like the ELDm and shooting the 208 ELDm .340 MOA but only at 2800 fps though. I can get it to 3050 but only shooting .90 MOA. Oddly though my 6.5-270 AI shot the 147s really well except my cold bore shot was 4 inchs to the left at 100 yards!!! I didn't get it on Bergers or sierras but just these 147s and 143x. My 208m doesnt have that problem.

hello guys, i have been reading through this thread and the 285's grabbed my attention when the came out. i shoot a custom 338 edge and have been fighting to get this gun to shoot the 300 smk's. i think im up to 94gr of H1000 without any pressure and its just now starting to group. Im thinking of trying the 285's before i go any farther with the SMK's. What do you guys think would be a good starting point for a 338 edge 28" packnor barrel with a break? I never had this much trouble from my 30" edge that is the other reason for switching gears on my new build. Thanks

Well I finally got my chance to test the 285gr. I shot a bull just over 700yds with my Edge. Wind call was a bit off and I hit in front of the shoulder at the very base of the neck. Bullet was not recovered as it excited. However, from having shot hundreds of animals, the wound channel and exit were exactly what I would expect from a controlled mushroom just liked pics earlier in this thread.

The bull was DRT...or at least once he stopped sliding 200 yards down the steep incline. That was a brutal recovery.
