RL 23 works really well in the 280AI for all bullet weights.
I'm running the 143gr Hammer Hunter at 3268 fps with RL23. Load development was only 11 rounds. They perform great on game, too.
The jury is still out on the 150gr LRAB. I've got it down to an ES of 2 at 3121 fps with RL23, but it will shoot great some days and just fair on others. Every time I wonder if its the "Indian and not the arrow", I'll drop some loaded rounds with the Hammers in the chamber and shoot a 0.5 moa or less group. I may be scrapping the 150 LRAB. I've got a bunch of 160gr AB's and 175 Partitions on hand that I may give a try.

hey Doygduey your right on . I have experience with the 280AI and I believe I used the same charge as the 270 win with 130 but a 160 in the280AI.I believe I was getting 3050 with 160 grand slam bullet which is like the nosler petition and this is real close to the 7mm magnum. the 160 AB are the top dog in the race.

What brass are you running?

I had the same results as DD with the 150lrab's. Shot great so I loaded up a bunch!! Now it is good or poor and never again bug holes... The 150ttsx and 131HH are what I have dialed in now. E-tips were ok in my gun but built with an alloy and so I didn't fool with them after the hammers went so easy. I have tried them all since I can't leave it alone.

DD Yes i tried the AB's and compared the federals shot more consistently with different setting length and charges too.

OP Don't forget to follow Christensen's break in procedure with "premium factory loads" ;) What twist did that come in BTW?

And for what it's worth, ABLR bullets love a lot of jump. Instead of putting them right on the lands, jump them .050 or even .100. I have shot the 150 grain ABLR in a 284 Winchester that is set up to shoot 180 hybrids (long throat) and it hammers. I tried to find the lands in a modified case and the bullet would fall out of the modified case before touching the lands. I just pushed bullet near the neck/shoulder junction and worked a load. So I was jumping about a 1/4 inch and that's ok because my 284 is build on a long action. After load workup, shot one hole at 100 yards and tiny groups at 400 and 500.

I guess my rifle just doesn't like the 150 LRAB. My 7 STW loves them. I called Nosler about loading suggestions for the LRAB. They said to start at 0.050" off and generally seat them deeper if needed. My 280 shot best at 0.020" off the lands. So, go figure. I generally seat my bullets boat tail/base junction with the neck/shoulder junction because it gives me the best and most consistent concentricity. But, the rifle gets what the rifle wants!!
