28 Nosler Rifle Recommendation

the MOA rifles are very expensive, but do shoot and have some cool advantages for long bullets.

I think for the money, the new seekins havak is going to be hard to beat. but again, it will be limited to their mag (which should be longer than a std aics). but at just over $2k, its an awesome rifle. I think they have an even lighter model with their full carbon stock coming soon too

if you want to go custom and want dbm, go with a cip length dbm setup and an accurate mag.

I had just looked at the seekins last week. It wasn't in 28 Nosler but think it was the newer model given the stock it had. Was a very nice gun. I like the idea of the really long and heavy bullets but also think the 175-180s will be plenty for hunting.

I guess I dont understand the price of the hells canyon mcmillan. The hells canyon is around $1000. Ok now go buy a mcmillan stock for it at $565 Or $680 depending on edge fill or not. Now get a bedding job done and you still are not at what they are asking retail do for the package and you have an extra stock.
Does the McMillian have a different barrel? I think it come with a pic rail as well. Not sure that would justify the price difference though.

Let me throw this out there. Was visiting with a gunsmith that my friend uses in MO. They are building some 28s to run the big Berger and are waiting on the reamer they ordered to show up. It was a wide ranging conversation and by the end we had a potential idea that would need some research to see if it would work.

I put together a Weatherby Outfitter in 270 Win for a lightweight sheep rifle. That trip isn't going to happen so the rifle is just taking up space at the moment. It is a 6 lug action. We discussed potentially just taking the barrel off and replacing with a Proof Sendero Light. I think the mag box might be a little short for running the 175-180 gr bullets as my 6.5-300 at 3.57" was just a touch to long when I did a quick comparison last night. I am on the fence as it would utilize a rifle that I like the feel and characteristics of and would still be extremely ultralight and if I do get to sheep hunt some day would be a great combination. Only downside is it is extremely accurate as it sets now. It wears a Swaro Z3 and is maybe 7lbs complete currently. The Z3 would have to be replaced if the change is made. Any thoughts on this?

I think I'm going to go with my Tikka that's currently wearing a 7 mag barrel, get the Mountain Tactical bottom metal and Accurate mags which will allow a COAL of 3.600. I know I'm leaving a little on the table going with the Tikka but not much.

I just got back from the range with the Cooper M52 in 28 Nosler. Loaded with Berger 180 Hybrids at 3190 fps. Shot a milk just at 965 yards, another one at 1320 yards and run the steel gong at 1797 yards. Whole package with a Nightforce NXS is probably close to 9 lbs. But it shoots. You could loose a little weight with scope selection. It' just not an issue for my wants.

That is a great set up. Sounds like a great day of shooting as well. Best I can do is paper at 1000 yards

I don't know what the other differences are either. The price difference is more like $700 though, the Hells Canyon runs bout $1100, the McMillan can be had for $1800, throw in a 20 MOA rail (that has been bedded already) and you're pretty much the same price.

Of the guns you mention the MOA is the way to go - you will want the 195's and none of the big factory guns will be chambered for them due to the specs being outside of SAMMI.

Bob Beck builds a great hunters Rifle , you can't go wrong with MOA.

I second piercision rifles built by Ryan Pierce. He has bout 100s of 28 noslers. Has a special throat design that's gets a bit more speed with all bullets, has reamer options for 180s and 195s. Great guy to deal with. He's building me a 300 norma improved currently.
If was building a 28 Nosler I would check out Ryan Pierce.

I think you owe it to yourself to check him out

I think I found his site. From the little I can see and read, his rifles look impressive.

Give Robby a call from MOA - I spoke with Bob Beck earlier about the build you want, he is in Mexico hunting right now, Robby can help you in the mean time. Remember the 195 we all shoot is Bobs design and is called the EOL for Extreme Outer Limits.
