270 Win 140 Bergers I need some help getting over 3000 fps 22" barrel?

So far the load data I've seen using Magpro and the Berger 140 has a COAL of 3.250". Are you at max loads when crushing powder? Makes me wonder how far off the lands you are and if you could seat out closer to 3.390". The book max is already at 64k PSI. So I'd be careful. Just some food for thought.

I believe by seating the bullet further out past what the manual suggests would decrease the pressure because you have more volume now. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I noticed a slight decrease in velocity when I started playing with seating depth and seating further than what the book said.

I would still caution anyone to tread lightly when approaching or exceeding max loads.

The above comes from hornady for a 24" barrel. I've also read 7828ssc is quick. This is for hornady's 140-145

Yes seating out can decrease pressures by increasing volume to a point. But if you contact/ jam the lands you may increase pressures. And I agree on being cautious when approaching max loads. The OP said he was compressing his load which is why I asked what his overall length was and how far off the lands he was.

I don't know right now but I will check those numbers after the holiday weekend. I do know that my Weatherby Ultralight, in 270 Win , will shoot the "Showoff Load " of 59.2 Grains if H 4831SC, with the 130 grn. Nosler Ballistic tips , and Win LR Primers, in Win. cases that are matched to 185.0 to 185.2 , or 185.3 to 185.5 with loads that are too long for the magazine . That combination will make bullet holes touch, at 100 yards, if I allow the very thin S/S fluted barrel to cool 1 min and 40 seconds between shots #2 and # 3. I believe that load is vey close to 3000 fps from the 24 inch barrel. I tested this load in an INDOOR 100 yard shooting range , at a Gun Store , in Middletown , NY. I did kill a beautiful buck, in Ohio, at range of 96 yards , with that "Show Off" accuracy load, and it did not run 20 yards. The Lungs were Liquid. The guide was really surprised. My standard plain old deer load is the same except it uses 59.5 grns H 4831SC, and COAL, and OGIVE are a bit shorter so I can put the other two rounds in the magazine and not damage the yellow poly tips of the bullets. The accuracy of my 270 Win "Hunting Load" is just fine for deer hunting . My personal opinion is the . 270 ,130 grn Ballistic Tip, started at about 3050 Fps, is an excellent Whitetail Deer bullet . I'm never changing this combination.
