I know this may have been beat to death but I'm gonna ask anyway. I have a Remington SPS in 270. Can I use this as a donor action to build a 7PRC. Thanks

Yes. However, you will need to have the bolt face opened in order to chamber 7prc.
Either way I think your looking at ~$300 for the bolt or for gunsmith work.
I would just save a little and buy a Bergara in 7prc. The footprint is the same as rem 700 so upgrading stock and bottom metal could be down the road projects.

Thanks. Thought about that also. Gun is just sitting in safe figure I'd ask

.375 Ruger (left) From right to left: 6.5 PRC, 7 PRC, 300 PRC

For those who don't know the dimensions of either of these cartridges, yes, the bolt face can be opened up but remember to add in the extractor to the bolt machining. Or you can just replace the bolt completely with an aftermarket choice.

The rails in the action will have to be opened since the 7 PRC has a 0.532" diameter as opposed to the .270 Win. diameter of 0.473 since this affects feeding. Chances are the feed ramp might need a little touch up also.

The magazine box and follower will need replacing also.

Enjoy the process!

😊

You can but there is at least a bolt change (or bolt work) and a follower change. There may be (and I stress may) be feed lips work as well. If I were you I'd buy or trade for a magnum action.

Is the caption on this picture correct?

I don't know if anything is, I don't have one of these and wondered if this is what they looked like, thanks.

About 25 years ago i traded a guy my lefty factory 700 BDL Rem. 7 mag. for his lefty 700 BDL in 270.
He also gave me $100 because my gun had a nice after market stock.
I had the bolt face opened up and a Sako extractor installed, took a good Rem 40x barrel in 7 mag which was 27", had it rechambered for the 300 WBY. case, making it a 7x300 WBY.
I didnt change any magazine parts, but i still get 2 in there plus one in the chamber.
Made up to be a nice long range sporter.
Velocity is the same as my other 7x300 with a 30" barrel using the same load with 162 gr Hornady bullets, about 3350 using 78 gr of 7828.
Killed a nice bear with it at 700+ yards with a first round hit.
3.5x10 Leupold with a multi dot Premier reticle, no dials.
I have also changed out the stock for a nice multi color laminate thumbhole.
My son did the same with an ADL action and he gets 3 in the magazine.

Opening up the bolt face and adding an M16 Extractor is NOT inexpensive! Feed rails/followers are another fix.

Consider going with a 280 AI, and if you are not shooting past 1200 yards, set it up for 168g Bergers/162g ELDX. Have your gunsmith install a Wyatt's magazine box and follower for the win! The Wyatt's mag box will give you another .125 in Cartridge Over All Length.

The other option is to hunt for a used Magnum bolt face action that is not an Ultra Mag action.
