270 AI equals 280AI?

That's what I did. Nothing wrong with sending 130's and 140's and probably 150's out of the AI.
The 27 calibers get knocked around for their bullet selection but there are a lot of great hunting bullets made for the caliber.
A 140-150gr in the 3250-3350' range would likely kill anything I hunt in the central Cascades of WA. Gonna be a fun little project to tinker with.

RL26 has been gamechanger in the .270 Win for me such I am waiting on 1:8 barrel. Berger 170 is 3050 out of 1:10 24" barrel. I am betting 3150 or more out of 27" 1:8. I am betting the 156HH will be screamer.
What's the COAL on your 170 gr load? I've toyed with the idea for a 270 standard or AI in my JC Higgins FN Mauser. But the magbox probably only allows 3.390" COAL.

When we get unpacked from moving I need to check what bullets I have but I think I bought some 129gr LRX's that should be fun. Hoping for 3400-3500 with them.

I wonder how fast an AI chamber could push the 124gr HH or even better, the 116gr AH…? This is something I know some of the diehard Hammer Bullet fans have done in standard 270 Win after reading loads posted over on the Hammer forum. If I had the twist, that 156gr HH would be tough to beat as an all around hunting option.

How about a .270-6.5 WBY RPM? I'm thinking that way for a re-barrel of my UltraLightWeight. The most HP available in a .473 bolt face.
If brass were easily obtainable, that'd be a no brainer for sure! Can you imagine if Petersen picked up that case!? That'd be a pretty neat round. Too bad Weatherby will likely never push something like that into production, because it'd basically cause the extinction of their 270 Weatherby. But boy would it be an impressive all around slayer!

116's@ 3519 on my initial test session

I previously asked Peterson if they have plans in making wildcat tubes in .473" but I was told no. Having said that, .532" is supposed to be in the works.

I apologize in advance and I love my 270 but I will do a 257RPM, just fore warning everyone ;)

@Roughrice is correct. There's more options for 7mm bullets and there's factory formed brass and factory non custom dies for 280 Ackley. Both are great cartridges and are equals to one another ballistically, when loaded correctly. However, there's just more data, components, and dies for the 280 AI so that's why it's more common.
The 280AI case to the shoulder is a tad longer too. Nothing to stop you from have a reamer bore of .277 to 280AI case either. A little more powder. Being you are pushing a heaver bullet done the tube.

I did, too. Was told the same. Having said that, I think somebody will do it. There is too much potential waiting there. The question is "when".
