270 AI equals 280AI?

Just curious what your load is. That seems to be hailing *** for a standard 270 Win in a 24" barrel! I wonder how much speed you'd pick up with an AI chamber…
Also, what's your elevation that you're able to push the 170s in a 10" twist barrel?
900' elevation.
THIS LOAD WAS DEVELOPED IN MY RIFLE. USE STANDARD RELOADING PRACTICES TO WORK UP A SAFE LOAD IN YOUR RIFLE. DO NOT ASSUME THIS LOAD IS SAFE IN YOUR RIFLE!.
Attached is the ladder for the RL26 with 170EOL. I ended up at 60.2 at 3050. The EJ is my notes for first sign of ejector mark which is very slight but visible. I choose not to push beyond the very first sign of ejector mark. Even then, primer pockets will still tell you more. I did not see any loose primer pockets. This is 24" Shaw 1:10 barrel standard throat but I do have really nice DBM COAL of 3.45". These velocities are not atypical for what I have been seeing with RL26 in the .270Win.

You asked me for some photos of the .270 Ackley Improved. Here are a few photos of the .270 Winchester and a .270 Ackley.
How far out are you seating the 150gr Accubond LRs?
I've got a Bergara Ridge and have the ability to really seat my bullets WAY out there.
I've got some old 6.5 Sherman rounds that were loaded to 3.45" and they easily fit in my magazine with room to spare =)

How's RL26 do with the AI?
Just scored 2 lbs of it at my local shop. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it! They're not giving it away these days, but I was happy to spend my money 😂
$100‼️

You will wish you bought 10 lbs after seeing the velocities with it!
Two was all they had. Just happy to have found it. I'm number 8 on their wait list and they only got to the first 5 on the list. One guy didn't come in and somehow I just scored!
I'm pretty impressed by the velocities RL19 is showing with those 150gr ABLRs… 3300' in a 26" barrel!? Yeehaw!

.270 Win with 150 NBT vs. .270 AI with 175 Matrix
I know this is an older thread but the one I'm doing will have the shoulder pushed farther forward so it shares the sane neck/shoulder junction as the standard 270. If I don't do that, I'll base it off the original 280 improved 40 since I have a set of bushing dies for that. No need to give up horsepower.

With this renewed interest in the .277 caliber (27 Nosler, 6.8 Western) along with modern powders, how is the 270AI not more popular or even the equal of the 280AI?
I got a custom 270 with a Douglas barrel. It don't care about other calibers; just does its job, big hole , big hole out. 130 gr Nosler goes completely through a hog; from front shoulder, and out the rear quarter. 250 yds. DRT

Since this thread first started, I built a fast twist 1:8, 0.290 freebore, 5R to shoot 156HH and results have been way better than expected. I was at one time thinking of doing .270AI but as standard it has been GE! Good Enough! The 156HH topped out just under 3300 with good old regular brass and I am satisfied with the performance. Hunting load is 3205 which is dang good! Accurate, deadly with the 156HH. Other bullet velocity ladders were posted as well that were much better than expected. The freebore really added performance with increased case capacity for RL26 pixie dust. Its just a fun rifle to shoot.

Hello Wilcup, I apologize for not answering you back on this question. For some reason I stopped getting notifications on this thread????? I am seating them at 3.330 due to the 3.340 short magazine box in the Ruger 77. I am not certain about bullet jump, but I know it is significant due to the limitations of the action. I hope this helps. Also for me FEENIX is my "go to" person with questions on the .270 Ackley. He is the one who introduced me to this cartridge. For the life of me I cannot figure out the reason that all of the ammunition manufacturers have managed to skirt around this cartridge. For me it fills a void in many of the cartridges that are out there. My barrels are 1:10 twist due to the fact that the rifles are built for whitetail deer hunting. If someone wanted to go heavier a 1:7 or 1:8 twist ought to fill in the gap even better. We can get 3300 out of the 26 inch Lilja barrel, but....it is at the expense of the brass. I would like to find some RL26, it is just not available online or in our local gun shops. If you build one you will not be disappointed on performance or accuracy. The photos This 300 yard photo that I have attached has been used on some other threads, maybe this one as well??? They are old because we (my son and I) have been playing some of our other toys and haven't had the .270AIs out for a while now. With this particular load, only a 200 yard zero instead of the 100 yard zero, the bullet would be about 1 1/4 inch high at 100 yards and 5 3/4 inch low at 300 yards with 2300 foot pounds of muzzle energy.
