270-300 Win Mag now feasible

IIRC Bob Beck @ extreme outer limits mentioned something. Can't find it at the moment. May be a bad recollection.

Thanks…I will look into it…

I may finally have my Mausingfield LA, mag face bolt, here in few months…Benchmark has already made my barrel (270 Wby)…just waiting for the action…

I will start a new thread when this happens…Got to keep BJD thread alive...

after reviewing the numbers of last week, and realizing that it was late in the day with the sun at an odd angle when i ran my chronograph ( it only recorded twice)

I reran the load ladder today in full southern california sunshine and all 55 degrees of our harsh winter. BRRRR.

The Retumbo load ran consistant at 3276-3300. For the 150gr Nosler LRAB

The US869 load ran 3276-3306

The Retumbo load was far more accurate.

So us869 in the 165 and heavier and retumbo in the 150 class.

This latest test was with different brass- federal nickel plated.

I will rerun this with the winchester brass and add h1000 just for fun.

Sure am glad i got the barrel nitride. I dont mind experimenting as much.

Our barrels are cheaper than ammo…:)

Good info…

Are you going to order some of the 170 Bergers on pre order? Apparently they should be shipping on the 15th of December…

I have already pre ordered...

Ii am supposed to be on the trial list for FIRING LINE RADIO SHOW. i've been promised bullets.

They did send me the 7mm 195s early.

This rifle was built in anticipation of that bullet- LAST SPRING!!!

I cant wait- i may have to play hookey when they come

Just got my tracking number for the Berger 170s...

Here is the 150 Nosler LRAB AT 3,391 at 100 yards.

I think the 3500 fps was a bad reading, i have not been able to duplicate it.

I did drive the 175 Matrix to 3200 fps. So hopefulle the Berger 170s will do that and a little more.

I started playing with the CUTTING EDGE BULLETS 140grs. I had a load ladder from 3282-3487 with Retumbo. This is all of the ladder on one target.

That is a 6.5-284 on the left.

In a 300 win mag, i have had great success with the 165gr and IMR 4350.

So i have also started a load ladder with IMR4350 and the CUTTING EDGE BULLETS in 140gr .277.

I went with 4350 because the 140 gr with the 270 is the sweet spot, like a 165gr bullet for a 308 caliber. Not too scientific, but i believe the pressure ratios are similar. Not scientifically measured, just observations.

IMR 4350 drove the 140 to 3260 with no signs of pressure, so i will continue with that direction.

Ultimately I am loking for 3500 with the 140, 3400 for the 150 and 3300 165, 3250 with the Berger 170.
