270-300 Win Mag now feasible

Berger is not going to have the 270 170s by hunting season this year, in my opinion. I did get ahold of Marshal at Matrix and he sold me two boxes of his 175s. He may have a few left if you contact him.

Ill see how these do and make a choice for my November Mule Deer Hunt.

If it is any help…The Matrix 175s shot at an average 3054fps (20 round ES 28fps) with 71grs of H1000 out of my 270 Wby, 28" Benchmark 1-9 barrel...

Thanks for the info. Did you get a bc on the 175s? Matrix gives an estimated .680. I was wondering if that was your real world experience too?

Vlooks like it will be another week before i can shoot the 175 ladder i have ready.

Feenix- have you tried any of the 175s?

I went straight for us 869 in this experiment

New range development:

I went back to the Nosler LRAB in 150gr. And i used ERetumbo and US869 instead of 7828, and h4831 and h1000.

The results were stunning.

3464 with Retumbo

3567 with Us869

The load ladder shot a 3/4 group with different powders and a 1 gr variance in charge.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm...........

I wonder if the Cutting Edge 140s would break 3600. Do i need to, no. But could I?

That's sizzling hot! I bet you can break it.

Big Jake Duke,

You are operating in the same stratosphere as the 270 Allen Magnum, most probable with considerably less power, which is a good thing.

I'm thinking ES in your cartridge will be way less than the AM with US 869, would be interesting to know for sure.

With the 130 to 150 weight range I found 7828ssc a great option to 869. 7828ssc was the only stick powder that wouldn't bridge in the AM case. For 165 and above ssc seemed a bit too fast.

Berger 170s "appear" to be available, or at least nearly so.

I have a build in the thinking stage. Depending on the bolt face on the action selected the 270-300 will be a strong consideration. If I use the action that was used on the AM the 270-300 will be the choice. If I use a standard size bolt face it will be a 270 Sherman. It all depends on how some trading ends up.

You're doing good work!

Wow…good info…my fouling round is 77gr of H1000 pushing a Hornady 150 SST @3350fps with an ES of 25. I never developed a 150gr load for the 270Wby (Benchmark 28" 1-9). Just messing around with the 165 Matrixs. I have had the 165s over 3300fps but they were just a tad too warm…

May have to find some in stock Retumbo…Leaving over 100fps (for the 150s) on the table may be an interesting endeavor…

Do it…break 3600fps and put that "new" 6.5-300 Wby to shame...

Where have you found out that the Berger 170s may be available?

Thanks
