Your results will be interesting, please post. I am having a 6.5-06AI being built and I have a 260. I would like to hope there is a big difference of at least 100 fps.

There is no comparison performance wise with those 2 cartridges........ the 6.5-06 will be about 350 ft/sec. faster..with good brass...

+1...shot an A.I. for years and that's a fact. I now shoot my 6.5 Sherman which is an A.I. on steroids and it makes 3300' with 140's in a 26" barrel if I push it and will shoot 3250' all day long. The Short action version (SS) will do the same.....Rich

After researching everything I could find on the .260 Ackly, i got past the doom and gloom reports of not worth the trouble, etc. and built a first class one. Today, my gunsmith fired in front of me a 3 shot .268 group at about 3025 fps over a 30 inch MTU barrel. Load was 45.6 H4350, starting to show some strain on the primer. Used Federal 210 Match. The gun was tested with 44.6 to 45.6 grains, all very small and seating depth was not real important from way out to way in, Settled on .030 out to avoid unnecessary forces. Berger 140 Hybrids all the way.

Will notify you when I take a groundhog at 1500 yards.

Case life will be fine and after 50 rounds, not a single streak of brass has been found in my Brux barrel, Remind me why I have so much money in Bench guns!

Careful with your loads, work up slowly so I don't feel bad trying to copy my load.

Hi Gary,
With the 260 AI I'm getting 3100 FPS with the 140 Berger. Are you thinking I could improve 2oo FPS? With a 6.5-57?
It could be that the AI is a little more efficient vs the std 260, hence the improvement. I also still have some room for more powder, but it doesnt yield much improvement.

Ok, I shot a couple deer with the 6.5-06 that I chambered in October. 120 gr nos bal tip 3200 fps 50.7 gr IMR 4166 ~65kpsi

My 1) 10" twist Douglas barrel 260 and my 2) 9" twist Shilen barrel 260, cannot hit anything.

My 8" twist Shilen barrel 6.5-06 seems to hit everything, even better than my 7mmRemMag rifles.

My (2) 260 and (1) 6.5-06 rifles must be just anecdotes.
There are plenty of guys the 260 works for and 7mmRM has got to beat 6.5-06.

But this is the crazy stuff that happens with a small enough sample.

This thread got me to looking for .260's again on GB this week. There are some very nice one's for sale.

I'm still holding out though for a 700CDL SF in .260 though before I pull the trigger.

There's just something about buying a proprietary caliber in it's original offerings that appeals to me.

There was an ultra lite Titanim Skeletonized .260 though with a 16" barrel that really grabbed my eye. If I were looking for a light mountain rifle for short to mid range work it would be hard to pass by.

Can't believe this is still alive! I have a Creedmoor now that's getting ready to be put into a mcmillian and an Atacr put on top. It helped me take overall in this year's sportsman's challange. I still want a 6.5-06 ai though but the Creedmoor is more practical for the round count I want out of the barrel. Travis ar Rbros is also turning out some amazing 260 ai that may get the nod for the rebarrel

Since we are talking 6.5-06AI. Any thoughts on H-1000 and 140 VLDs in that round.
I'm in line at Montoure County Rifles for a build. :)

Thanks Rich,
It's very tempting but I already have a bunch of components and Redding dies. I've been a couple of years on this project. I even got my action from him about 3 years ago. I'm on a budget :)
Unfortunately I'm too far down the road to change lanes.
