.257 135 Berger real world experience wanted.

I have a 257 Weatherby 24" tube with a 7.5 twist throated to shoot the 131 blackjack bullets. I am getting nearly 3300 fps with H1000 with the blackjacks and 3250 with the Berger 135. I think you will get better velocity if you build a rifle that will allow you to seat the bullets out farther and get more powder in the case. My buddy built the same rifle but put a 26" tube on his and he is hitting 3350 with the Blackjack. My COAL is 3.575 and I am running 72g H1000. I hope that helps.

I just picked up my 7twist 25-06 yesterday from the gun smith and will be testing the 135's this weekend hoping to get 3100fps. I used a M77 action and a spiral flute #5 Benchmark, HS precision stock. Will be testing N560 and h4831.
You'll achieve that pretty easily, I had em to 3k with RL26 in a creedmoor.

26" 1:7.5: 25SST, 135 LR Hyb @ 3127fps with a very moderate load of RL23. Haven't explored much yet with onlyhaving 2 weeks to test before my pronghorn season opened, but hit 3200 easily.
875 yds on a NM pronghorn. Results were a dead pronghorn.

My buddy shoots them at 2910fps in his 25CM.
I am thinking on a 25x47L for my next rebarrel.....after my next rebarrel.....

25 creed at 2840fps, 470 yards, hit a touch low through the humerus and into the heart. No exit. Took a few steps and died. I did drill the tips, first just unplugged the clogged ones but then went back with a slightly bigger bit that took off just a hair more. Pleased with the performance but need more testing.

This may be a dumb question, and forgive me if it is, but how do you go about drilling out the tips? I know you use a pin drill bit but what's the full process? Do you just use your hand to hold the bullet and hand turn it or do you use a vice and something like a dremel? Thanks!

A hand drill, cheapie version on Amazon is what I do but I'm new at drilling tips and I'm not the expert here. I just hold the bullet. I'm not removing much material so it is not too difficult and doesn't require a whole lot of force/effort.

I am waiting for a new Brux barrel to arrive in a 25 caliber , 7 1/2 twist ,#4 contour, that will be chambered in a 257 Weatherby finished at 28 inches on a Weatherby mark 5 action. i did build a 257 Creedmoor Brux barrel , 7 1/2 twist , #7 contour , Savage action , this rifle shoots the 135 gr. Berger bullets in a 5 shot hole at 100 yards 3/8 inch or less , its very accurate. another good accurate bullet is Hammer 128 gr. 25 caliber bullet which i plan to use when i hunt for deer in Montana , is the 257 Weatherby 7 1/2 twist if it shows up soon .

Two more dead antelope with the 25 creed this time wifey doing the shooting. 280 yards doe in the humerus/shoulder again no exit, bang flop.

350 yards doe/fawn high shoulder, exited this time with 3in exit. Bang flop.

I'm really liking the bang flop performance, but should try to keep these behind the shoulder to avoid meat loss! It makes a mess of the internals in all three kills so far.CEB6F973-7439-4930-9FAF-0CC0549F50FC.jpeg7DBD9FDF-6CDB-4A88-96F5-8C53DB438DD4.jpeg

Just to confirm, this is with the 25 cal 135 berger?

Anyone else with on game performance with the 135 bergers?

I bought this one. The drill bits are cheap but work for now. I use the .027" bit mostly just to clear.

Nice work! Seeing that LRHS scope as well. Great scope.
